Donald, yes, it is definitely improving with lots of modifications. Now it is 6 years old, so we just had to replace our port saildrive. Not expected and pricey. Ouch!

Thanks for a very informative video! Is it possible to disconnect the compressor so it can be housed in an adjacent cupboard with just a small hole to run the condenser line through?

I love this conversion. My leopard has the fridge freezer next to each other and they are inefficient and drink power. I really like the 3 drawers and as you say you need 3 breakdowns to loose cooling which is highly unlikely. This is perfect I think great for the heads up on this.👍

Thanks for the video. Could you elaborate on the benefits such as power consumption etc...?
@offthestarboardhull89136 жыл бұрын
Claas R , the old fridge used 7.8 amps all 3 running is 6.8 amps When we use up food we pack into 2 fridges and shut 1 off, or 2 off. Gone are the days of crawling on the floor to dig to the back of the floor mounted stock fridge. We love it

tower of power - consumption - nice job

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, Graeme.
@offthestarboardhull89136 жыл бұрын
I have monitored the power consumption and the verdict is a net neutral. The amps vary but for the most part it’s about the same as the old one. If there is a gain it would be the length of time they run, that said I would think and it seems to be true that the Engle units cycle and the old unit just seemed to always run. Another plus is the ability to shut 1 or 2 of the units off as we eat our way out of each. Cheers

@@offthestarboardhull8913 Oops sorry Scott - it was said tongue in cheek! Thanks for the info though, I really thought you did a great job of the install. So much so that I sent a link to my buddy with a 38ft trimaran suggesting we do something similar to resolve it's fridge issues. I was also concerned about heat soak in the cabinet but you pre-empted me by putting in the extra vent. I really enjoy your videos I'm sorry if my comment offended you. Once again thanks for the videos and all your efforts! Graeme.

New too your channel and thanks for sharing your lives and ideas. The new long vent not a concern for water penetration? How have you both found the newer system? Great too have redundancy especially if you can shut down and save on consumption of power brilliant 👍🏼 Cheers.

Have you tried one as a freezer yet? How well does it work? Can it keep ice cream, and make ice cubes?
@offthestarboardhull89136 жыл бұрын
We have not tried to use one as a freezer yet as we have a 45 L Engel that we use as a freezer. I think that the -8 capacity of the freezer would be sufficient for ice cream and ice cubes, which is the same as our 45 L. Cheers

The small needle bearings broke and scored the sail drive shaft. We think that perhaps the top seal leaked. We hadn’t changed the oil but that is speculation at best.

3 fridges to do the same job as 1....... 3x power draw vs 1......... 3x purchase price vs 1............why would you? money to burn?
@offthestarboardhull89136 жыл бұрын
Wrong on every point made, 7.8 amps for the stock fridge, 2.2 amps per fridge. When all 3 are running the load was actually 6.8 amps, so net gain. When we eat our way out of one fridge we shut down the empty one, when we eat our way out of 2 fridges we shut down 2 of them. So the overall power saving can be substantial. The stainless drawer fridge I was planning on initially was $2,100, there 3 were $1,800. The other big plus is they can be freezers as well. The money that got burned here in New Zealand was the new SD-60. Cheers

@@offthestarboardhull8913 why not have bought 1 fridge to replace 1 fridge? my dual zone fridge freezer on my boat holds more then your 3 shoe boxes combined and uses 5amp max and probably cost half what you spent. so.......net gain?
