Every year at this time, my father puts his cattle out after a winter in the barn in north Cornwall. Theres a lot of high spirits, jumping and shoving, knocking into fences etc... and getting used to freedom. Once those girls are settled down, enjoying the grass, arent they happy, though. Gaynor's brother was a meat and diary farmer so we have seen the cattle jumping for joy when they get out - in fact we sometimes use it as a metaphor for when something happens aboard after a long delay or wait. It was great to be back out again and, although it will be difficult, hopefully the weather will cooperate and help us out. Hope you are well and having a good time on your boat 👍

Your first sailing trip for 2024 was much calmer than mine. I wish my first trip for this year was as nice as yours. First I had no wind. I sat in the boat waiting for it to come. It came and I left my mooring. It was nice i made just above 4 knots. Then suddenly after my second tack the wind really came at me. To keep the boat with the keel pointing down I had too loosen both sheets and I made 7 knots. That's 1/2 knot faster than my boat should do with 7,2m in the waterline. My plan was to adjust the rigging in some light winds for that day. I turned back to my mooring.

I am glad ours was less exciting than yours 😄 but at least you got out. I thought it was just us that was late in sailing this year, but it sounds like you also had a late start. Nonetheless, glad you got back OK

Being from the States I wasn't sure "shambolic" was a real word until I looked it up. Seems to fit many sailing situations. It's nice that anything can be forgiven - except messing up with the kettle. :)

Perhaps Americans are more organised so they do not need the word? To be British requires the embracing of many shambles so it is required that "shambolic" is part of the lexicon of everyday English. But I think that in the small enclosed world that is a boat (of any size) the ability to forgive your shipmates is an important one - and producing cups of tea on request will smooth many a shambles 😄 Thanks for watching and getting in touch 👍

Use it or lose it, so true for sailing! Agree, love the sound of water gurgling on hull after the motor goes off and in my case when I get to 3.5 kts SOG. hope your summer is better than the last. 😊

Well it has rained here for 8 days, and tomorrow forecast is for over 100mm locally. Worse in other part of the NSW coast. All caused by a blocking high in the south driving Tasman sea moisture to the coast which is meeting a series of troughs. Delightful stuff and my deck is taking on a green tinge 🥺. The Met office says is extremely unusual situation and probably part of the climate change scenario, which they don’t often admit. Best from soggy bottom. SVDreamTime

😮 The green deck scenario is one we are familiar with so our sympathies in that respect! Hopefully you will not get the weather that we get for winter up here.

It is usually the last job on this boat. We have discovered that as soon as you get togged up, the bladder decides it is full and you have to strip down again 😃

We originally planned to anchor but there was dinghy racing in the anchorage so we stayed out to sea instead.

Great to sea you out. It just shows how much you have think about when taking a boat out after a while. I remember forgetting the kicking strap on the boom and couldn’t figure out why we were going so slow, another time no steerage, forgot to put rudder down. The Joys of sailing.thanks for a great video again.

@@SailingYachtSaltyLass SO rusty need 3in 1 oil 🤣🤣. Saturday motored out to test engine after extensive work on it over the off season, tested the anchor system. Sunday installed sails and tootled out in 7-9kns. Tacks improved with time 🤣. Highlights pilot whales sighted 🐳& didn’t fall overboard or crash into a pontoon 👍

Agreed that getting back filming & sailing is a puzzle. At least you have multiple cameras angles pre set up. I’m still on phone camera trying not to fall over
