Sixteen reels of 16mm film were discovered 20+ years ago in a house about to be demolished in Santa Cruz, CA . They were recently rediscoved and donated to the California Pioneers of Santa Clara County who fat irst preserved, then digitized them for public viewing. You are currently watching, a short composite film The Pioneers generated using just a few of these precious reels. After an exhaustive forensic search for the identity of the filmmaker, we have come to the conclusion these wonderful moing images were most likely created by Hart Weaver, owner of a SF automobile dealership at this same moment in history and was also a co-founder of The City's "Saint Francis Yacht Club".
Before the construction of the Golden Gate and SF/Oakland Bay Bridges, travel between counties within the Bay area meant being "on the water", whether it be on the Napa River, Stockton Delta, or on a sailboat gazing upon the undeveloped, grassy hillsides above Tiburon. These moving images give you a quick glimpse into what world was like on and around San Francisco Bay in 1929.

Thanks for posting this, a real blast from the past! The film of the AutoGyro is historically valuable as not many are in existence, This is a PCA-2 manufactured by the Pitcairn-Cierva company in 1929

Bingo! Also known as a an XOP-1 by the US Navy. These images were shot in action during an air show over an open field in Stockton, California in 1931. Perhaps selling the attributes as a "crop dusting agricultural machine". It's wing registration is NC10761, same as the machine that landed and took off from the White House lawn in 1931 and possibly the same pilot, James G. Ray, based upon 'screen grabs' of the pilot taken from this film. The little boy wearing the flying goggles is the filmmaker's youngest son, Peter, and then (at the end of that sequence) we view his oldest son, Hart L Weaver, walking through the gathered crowd..
