The majority of people in Madagascar live in extreme poverty. Currently, 75% of the population of Madagascar lives on less than $1.90 per day. Rates of poverty are high throughout the country, but they are worst in rural areas which is where we predominantly sail. Yet, the people are peaceful, quiet and shy. If they don't have a job, they will create one. If they don't have food, they will fish, forage or farm. It is remarkable country with remarkable people!

While in Madagascar please try to see chameleons. The greatest concentration of chameleon species on Earth is there. Over 250 species. The largest specie is there as well, called the Parson's chameleon that gets as big as a house cat. Tiny dinosaurs everywhere. Check also Oustalets chameleons, Panther Chameleons to just name a few. I have bred chameleons for 15 years and have dreamer of visiting Madagascar, but have not had the chance

I recall travelling through Africa in '89' and I bought some plastic bangles to hand out to the children. After a while I realised that this was patronising so I bought boxes of ballpoint pens. Far more practical, educational and desperately needed. Sometimes the kids would fight over a silly little pen, so I would take the pen back and give it to the grandmothers hoping that they would give it to the gifted child that needed it the most. It's sad to think that such a small thing can make such a big difference to somebody's life. Education truly is the best gift we can give. 😀👍

I’m in Spokane Washington and our North side home in rolling hills were pelted with a lot of snow! It is so beautiful here. I relate our struggles like yours. We have to shovel and plow loads of snow. You know from your Canadian background. You guys are so sweet to share treats and communicate with the local people. Love and learning between each connection you reach is respected. I think good vibes may keep you safe and connected. Great full is the right mindset… exactly… but be careful always. I just worry. Not everyone is what they seem. Somehow I believe the two of you can read people just by reaction. I imagine you know this very well as you are Vloggers or whatever. You have seen it all. Unfortunately people can be very disappointing but your ability to trudge through captures me. Thanks for your time… I really enjoyed.

Your children are experiencing the world (the sights, smell, culture, food) and children in industrial nations learn from books, video and the zoo. We take so much for granted. Even a cheap dollar store writing book is hard to find. But in their culture, they rely and engage with each other. We have so much stuff and our self reliance can be a curse, pulling us out of community engagement and the ability to be humanized. You are teaching your children so powerfully by your actions as parents. How to share your blessings to bless others! Thanks for being a blessing to me with your videos!

"Boab" works too. We all know what you mean. It ain't wrong, just different, depending on where you're from. Trading, bartering or give and take will change its character for the worse as you head further south. It may be worth your while getting into the habit of stowing stray gear well out of sight from now on. Best of luck. you are in a great part of the world.

Not having a lot of things or money is not necessary poor. I know many people who spend their lives chasing money and possessions and are never happy. That to me is poor. In the US at least the opportunity's are only limited by your own limitations. My wife and I have never gone hungry or had to live on the street. We have worked hard at jobs that were rewarding to us. For us the simple life is very rewarding. Now I can travel the world via You Tube. Keep up the good work.
