Very nice footage Keeldragger. You were right about the slugs in the marina. I have people on my dock who haven't been on their boats in a few years. Very sad! Reminds me of the people that have gym memberships that I never see at the gym. Except the slip fees are way more costly. Sail on Keeldragger 😊

Thanks. Hoping to get the boat out of the slip for more than just weekends at some point.

Glad to see you slummin’ in my hood. The turbidity may be related to the dredging operations. They’re trying to get the depth back to 20’ at low tide after delaying the 5-year dredging ops during Covid.

I did not notice any active dredging but I did see a dredger being towed a couple of weeks ago on the way to San Diego. Wonder if that came from MDR.

I think they wrapped end of May-ish. Began in January and it was as planned for 5 months. Remixed half a million cubic yards of sediment (about 100 Olympic-sized pools).

When I lived up in nocal, Ellison used to routinely fly his G4 after hours and just pay the fine. He may be the reason it’s called “chump change” …

I think they recently dredged that north entrance, and the south side has some build up, so guessing people are favoring the north side which has more room now. Last time I went out there you had to use the south side while they were dredging the north.

I heard the dredging was completed this season. I suspect it had more to do with boats favoring heading towards Santa Monica vs. El Segundo. Depths were good coming in from the South.

Enjoyed this 30 minute vid. I’m at Kings Harbor. Super nice facilities and neighborhood but over 500/ month for 25ft slip

That seems to be about the going rate these days. I've overdue for a stay in RB. The mooring are cheap but the sea lions are loud!

Nice job backing out of that slip. Did you just use short bursts of power to get steerage, without giving the prop a chance to walk the stern to port?
@keeldragger
@keeldragger Ай бұрын
Exactly. Short burst of reverse to get the boat moving fast enough for steerage, shift to neutral and coast with the rudder hard to starboard, short burst of power with rudder to port to get steerage moving forward. Fairly easy when there is no wind or significant current. I wish I would have filmed backing into the slip last weekend to work on the hydrovane install. That took a couple of go arounds but still relatively drama free. That would not have been the case with my previous full-keeled Fuji 35!
