Lifeboats!!! Thank you for sharing that journey. I thought it was quite obvious how many qualified skippers were on the boat, smooth sailing other than instantly remedying an engine trouble which would probably have the average Joe pulling into the nearest marina to abort the mission.

Y'know I didn't really expect you'd end up down south enough to hit Tazmania. Uncle Cosmo loved Tazmania. He'd head down there every year or two to go visit his mate 'Randy' Shilogh Kincade and get up to mischief. I recall one year Randy had a couple of jetskis sitting around doing sod all, so, the two of them had a few beers and settled on seeing what happens if you glue two jetskis to a canoe. Now, things might have been different if they'd picked a kayak. I'm sure all your viewers have a story that starts that way, certainly true for me. Anyhoo, they figured the main problem would be sorting out the controls, as the two jetskis weren't the same brand, or had the same engines and probably wouldn't behave. So, Uncle Randy's wife ran a small but pointless laundry service and as such she had a lot of plastic wrapped wire that she used as, whatchamallcaulit, drying wire? Dunno the Strayan, we call it dangler-string up here. So they rigged each jetski up with dangler-string so they could pull on the things and set the throttle and angles and all that jazz. First time they took it out they all fell out because it turns out two jetskis are quite heavy, and a canoe is not. They fixed this problem by adding a bunch of beer to the front of the canoe. It was, if I recall correctly, about nine in the morning when the contraption was relaunched, Uncle Cosmo sat on the rear with both hands full of cables, and Randy up front hoping to steer. It looked promising to begin with, the bow wake fell either side of the engines and they soared out into the bay. trouble was no one had made sure those cables were properly attached and about a mile out they lost the throttle wire, and had no way to slow the thing down. Search and rescue came out damn quick, possibly because they had never heard of Uncle Cosmo, and tried to retrieve the thing, which they never managed to do, partly because they couldn't stop laughing at the high speed vessel shaped exactly like an eager man's wedding prow, but mostly because the lads had managed to accidentley ram a Spooner's Whale while it was stopping off for a breather, which had slammed Uncle Cosmo all the way up into the beer storage, and catapulted Randy over the entire pod. Cosmo got picked up by a fresh young lifeguard (not the first time), though he fought tooth and nail when it turned out he wasn't going to be allowed to bring the rest of the beer with him, and last anyone saw of Randy he was losing a fight with a pack of angry barracuda.

Have you seen the treat of sucking oil out a crankcase. You use a shop vac put a 4 liter empty oil container inside the vac with a plastic tube that goes down the dip stick hole. Cut a top off a pop bottle with the cap. Drill a hole cap , pass the plastic tube though it and into the oil container. This will suck out the warm oil right into the container. Oh one big tip - don't over fill the container. Ask me how I know. Cheers from across the pond

Head just a little further south down Kanamaluka and you could've had all the seal footage you wanted: there's a fish farm at the southern end of Long Reach that always has a bunch of 'em hanging around the fringes. They'll come over and check out your boat if they suspect you're fishing.
