That was a Canadian frigate you passed on port side, they were built in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada had the pleasure of working on that project, I forget how many were built. Looks like nice guys ! Happy sailing

It's a small world... I grew up in Dana Point - Learned to said right there in that harbor. Now I live in Seattle and also enjoyed your quick tour of the San Juan Islands earlier in the series. Fair winds for the rest of your journey.

Chris Phinney Looks like we'll miss you in Cabo but have a great trip! I'm thinking we are still a couple of weeks away. Just checked in to Ensenada and are going to take our time heading south.

The first ship shown in your video was a DDG 51 Arleigh Burke class destroyer, the guardians of the fleet. There are two shipyards in the US that builds them.....Ingalls Shipbuilding and Bath Iron Works. I am the purchasing manager responsible for the steel buying group at Ingalls in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Currently we're building five destroyers for the US Navy, along with three other classes of surface combatants. As a fellow sailor, I'm enjoying your videos.

Dick Dixon Awesome! Thanks for the info Dick. It was really cool to see all of the Navy ships coming in and out of San Diego. Especially the aircraft carriers. I knew they were huge but I didn't realize how big they were until we were sharing the same entrance channel to San Diego!

Maybe rethink describing the ramming and repair when it is less painful . Fellow cruisers would benefit from your experience. Sailing and cruising vlogs that describe the reality of cruising maintain my interest more than the sunsets and sundowners variety. Thanks for the video. And keep up the good work. New subscriber btw.

Wow that was quite a gouge! Port Starboard or just someone rammed you on the dock? So sorry to see that. Enjoying your monologue, very relaxing tone that make watching your vid enjoyable. Keep up the nice work and following your adventures! Cheers!

Jessica Kirchoff hi Jessica! Thanks for the nice comment. Someone ran into us while we were tied up at the dock. They nicely put the gouge and some long scrapes and scratches in our port side. Definitely a bummer!

I hope Dana Point was a bit better to you than Santa Barbara. Dana Point is my home town and I sit on the little peir there by the Ocean Institute and read all the time. Did you get the paddle boards at Killer Dana?

So sorry to hear about the hit and run. Please don't blame Santa Barbara though. It is one of the great coastal towns in California and we have a fantastic sailing community there. Unfortunately idiots are idiots and it can happen anywhere at anytime. Smooth sailing my friends.

Any good sailing communities to recommend in Southern California??

Hit & run sucks but find a way to make it as positive as you can. Maybe think of it like a brand new car; once you get that first scratch behind you other minor boo-boos are not so bad.

Sail Before Sunset Unfortunately it was a sailboat who was sailing up the marina channel. He didn't exactly know what he was doing rammed right into us.
