For over 45 years I have been involved with boat repairs/rebuilds/builds (DYI) and I have to tell you that the quality of workmanship that you have applied to Magic Carpet is outstanding. I have a survey coming up on my 1972 sailboat and was excited to see, how yours would run. I guess I've to prepare myself for the worse, so that everything else will surprise me. Well done, you got a survey, you got insurance, the oceans is open now. Never want to miss any of your future videos because you're so much better enjoying live on the boat, than rebuild it. But rebuilding it, was an incredible time to watch too, but that time ends very soon. Where ever you going, I'm ready. Always have enough water under the keel and fair winds.

I had to actually look up what you mean - I didn’t know that word had political connotations in the USA. Congratulations on passing the survey and getting insurance in place. Difficulties with gate keepers/bureaucrats is of the most dangerous hazards to deal with, unpleasant yes. Take it as a wake up call to protect yourselves, and learn ways of dealing with very difficult people and managing the risks. I probably say this as I didn't protect myself and now see how that made it so easy for them to turn me into the 'product', etc. Looking forward to the launch of Magic Carpet II, and see you celebrate a lot of hard work, a challenging process, and great learning for the future.

First impressions so often ring true. After 5 minutes on most boats, a little poking around, it's quite easy to accurately predict what one will find with a thorough, highly scrutinizing survey. Care, love, attention, educated, practical, meticulous attention to the micro- the small details almost always signals the same approach to the macro- larger systems, construction etc. I'm highly confident a capable surveyor would see that on your beautiful boat first sniff. Congrats on being so close to transitioning from builders, to sailors!

Not all of your subscribers are boat people. I’m an RVer, but find channels about boats and boating fascinating. Good craftsmanship is a joy to watch and, as a former musician, I like that aspect of your channel. Many similarities in the “house” systems between boats/ships and RVs, and as a former private pilot, have a special place in my heart for navigation. Glad you used the air-flow material under your mattress. We have the same issue with moisture in RVs, and use the same/similar product, so thanks for highlighting it. Sorry you had to deal with a jerk surveyor. We were in Vancouver in late August 2023 and spent 4 months in eastern Canada (including Newfoundland & Labrador) in mid-2022. We found all of the Canadians we came in contact with to be warm and gracious. We love Canada and our Canadian friends.

Posting unsolicited footage would be as unprofessional as the man stating his off topic views... I would not expect Maya / Aladino to lower their standards by bringing others down in that fashion. I'm a retired marine surveyor and am surprised by your experience. Most surveyors that are affiliated with a professional organization (ie. SAMS, NAMS) have been through a rigorous training program and conduct themselves professionally. There are a few that are not associated with a professional organization and do manage to get business, but generally the insurance and financial institutions don't accept their reports on condition and appraisal. But, you got the box checked, congratulations! hopefully the resulting report will be a useful reference document for you to refer to (ie. serial numbers, ABYC standards, etc).

It has become a world, at least in the west where I can speak with experience, where more and more polarising viewpoints are being vocalised with no thought or consideration as to the feelings of the other person. No attempt to even start on common ground and find points for discussion with somewhat of an open mind. I keep telling myself to stay true to my own moral code and not become a person who dogmatically thinks my point of view is the only possible one in a world of possible worlds. Your boat looks amazing. Huge Complimenti!

I was involved with the CFI catamaran ferry project in BC back in the 90's. I spent a lot of time in various yards who were building the boats. I met a very blended group of people and some of them were absolutely the most rude and unprofessional people I have ever met. I was younger in my career and it rattled me as I was not accustomed to this behavior. I get what you are saying. I moved away from BC as I did not want to be involved in that environment anymore. I was done. It was a fantastic experience but it clarified for me that I wanted nothing to do with it.

You should become surveyors. I got a surveyor suggested by the broker in Ireland paid him but when I looked for insurance the surveyor had no insurance himself. So the broker got us insurance on a 40 year boat without survey for all Europe. An insured surveyor is a help buying except they will put you off nearly any boat.

So sorry about your surveyor experience ... as a retired one (SAMS AMS), I was dismayed by your experience ... and, hopefully, if this individual was a SAMS or NAMS surveyor, the organization should be made aware of his conduct. Surveys are always somewhat traumatic and emotional ... but to have someone like described is more than unfortunate. So ... "crack on" ... and look forward to more time on the water ... let alone the beautiful music!! All the best ......

Progressive insured my 1979 boat without even asking for a copy of the survey. And as for the surveyor, I told him before hiring him that I knew it was an old boat that had been sitting in the boatyard for a few years and I planned to do a lot of upgrades over the next few years, so all I wanted him to do was tell me if the boat was unsafe to put in the water. He had no problem with that and simply gave me recommendations on what to fix/upgrade first.
