Lots of comments about fridge size! Yes, it's small for a house, but this is actually quite spacious for a 36ft sailboat! It's SIGNIFICANTLY larger than the fridge on MCI, and we have enjoyed many beautiful meals in that tiny galley. So don't worry, we'll manage quite alright. In fact, we're quite excited about the size of this fridge! :) -Maya and Aladino

you mentioned you are going with technautics. i know their smaller system is sized for a 7 cubic feet box (200 litre/55 gallons) which adds up to the size of the box you ended up witrh after all that foam. this volume coupled with the insulation and efficiency of the eutetic plate is going to provide a great result. people commenting about the size have no idea (because usually they arent forced to have limitations) about the space required to be absolutely comfortable

Keep your heart up, you'll soon be making music and beautiful videos again. Though, it has to be said, given the confined circumstances and the relative 'sameness' of the tasks, you do an amazing job of keeping it interesting. If you guys need to take a break, we'll all be here waiting for you when you resume. Be kind to yourselves!

Tedious work. Aladino's desire for perfection paid off. Being the miracle man that he is, now's the time to build-in space for the water maker and maybe an ice maker (depending on the boat's battery capacity). These are luxury items, so their installation might be down the road, but this is the time to at least reserve the space! Aladino, you've proven yourself to be a miracle worker for breathing new life to old classic sailboats. Keep up the good work. Once completed, MC2 may very well be the accomplishment of your lifetime! May deep water pass under your keel in the years to come!

Hi Maya and Aladino, My wife and I enjoy your videos!! We may not be sailors but we can really relate to the whole perfectionist vs get it done now scenario we see unfolding. You are both artists that speak to our souls and Maya your wood work and finishing look pretty damn good for someone thats not into woodwork! We love and miss your music. We found the pieces you played for the areas you visited very touching. Aladino, I know its too late for the fridge but I find that Loctite PL300 adhesive caulking works FANTASTIC gluing the foam insulation your are using. I glue and screw it with SS screws which acts as a dowel/dont go anywhere device until the adhesive sets. I've made air conditioner covers and freeze prevention barriers that have held up very well for years. The PL300 will expand a little and fill voids without over pushing the joint and it doesn't contain thinning agents that will dissolve the foam. There's also Hot Wire Factory Foam Fusion Glue which creates an extremely strong bond line. For gutting open or closed cell foam, I find that hot nichrome wire works the best but a serrated knife is a close second. All our old serrated knives end up in my workshop to live their best second life. The hot wire site that sells the Foam Fusion glue has some amazing hot wire cutting tools should you find yourself working with foam again. Cant wait to see you launch.

I owned a 35 ft live aboard. My sink was about the same overall size but it was partitioned into two spaces. One third and two thirds. You will find that having the smaller partition will save a lot on water utilisation. It also had a board that extended work surface over the larger partition. We also had foot pumped salt and fresh water so we saved power off shore. This also prevented anyone running off the freshwater by accident offshore.

I'm curious why you didn't go with a foam pour? Build the interior liner (maybe with some foam board spacer blocks to the hull), line the hull well with plastic, pour in the expanding foam add the liner and wait for the foam to expand. Maybe need to top off with a final foam pour. You'd certainly avoid all the fussy cuts. Anyway I love the channel and what the TWO of you are doing. Keep up the great work.

The foam board product comes in thinner sizes. To follow the hull shape, multiple layers of thinner panels may have allowed you to follow the hull exactly. Having 4 - 1/2 " thick panels gives the same insulative value as a single 2" panel.

Regarding the sink; Aladino, instead of cutting and welding, why not nip and bend? That is, nip the corners and bend the edge to 90 degs, that would be cheaper and quicker and the backsplash would sit over the upturned edge thus stopping any water ingress behind the sink

At 4" your R value would be 20. If you do not tape the seams you will have air leakage. If you used 1" thick boards it might have been easier to join, tape and work with. With 1/2" and 1" thick boards you could overlap joints easier like wood working and end up with pin size locations of air penetrations. There are closed cell foams that give an R value of R-6 per 1" thickness. So 4" would give you an R24, a 6" would give you a R36. There are closed cell foil lined on each side of the boards that use aluminum tape to seal the boards and joints well. I spec these for commercial buildings all the time. R-Max is our local supplier.

Interesting stuff Will. I have a production boat made by a top European builder. If you saw what they laughingly call an acceptable fridge you would be laughing too. It has insulation so thin that condensation forms on the exterior of the foam which is bare foam behind the cabinet work. It varies between 2 inches and 1 inch on the bottom. So when you spend $250,000 on a boat you can expect a fridge that barely qualifies as a fridge and sucks your batteries flat because our winter temperatures are 21°C, and winter only lasts 8 weeks. To rectify the problem would mean ripping out the interior which is made of a timber we can't buy in Australia. In comparison the fridge they are building here is going to be superb.

@@philgray1023 I'm sorry to hear that. I have an Igloo ice chest with wall thicknesses of 1". I must pack it full of Ice and store only a few items for it to stay cold. In the shade it will last a day. In sun light in 100^ it will last a few hours. It is small and will hold 2 gallons of liquids and ice. It is not the main but auxiliary ice chest. Im cheap Im not ready to fork over $300-$600 for an ice chest. When it breaks maybe. I repair and fix instead of replace. I do not know how to make a frig! The condenser, the lines, the fins and battery. To make it solar would be amazing! Build that into a wagon for camping and the beach!
@philgray1023 Жыл бұрын
@@willrogers1023 If you saw the mad stuff on my boat you would throw your hands up. There is a compressor unit that uses water from my drinking water tank to cool it. A eutectic plate filled with a "vape" juice mixture in the fridge compartment all controlled by a computer. Sometimes it actually works. During summer the temperature in the boat is often around 38°C. If this lot dies again, I'm going to put a camping fridge in. Who buys a fridge then expects to learn about thermal hysteresis just to get a cold beer?

Overall I was not happy and I have build the next one. From fiberglass I have build two boxes. One small and one big. The gap in between was 10 cm. This gap, all the way around I have filled with polyurethane foam. The result is brilliant. The bottom is having a slope and at the deepest point a drain plug for cleaning. I will share a thought about the sink, if you do not settle for a high rear splash guard, you could make a cut (3/4 of material depth) on the outside (underside) of the sink and then bend it to a 90 degree corner. You will then have a small splash guard and the required welding (or other strengthening) would only be required on the backside of the sink, keeping the material in original condition without a visible weld from the side you will use the sink from🤔 Love your channel, keep on going💪
