I've lived on a sailboat for over a year now while cruising from the Sea of Cortez down to Puerto Vallarta and back. In fact - I own two boats currently. Dammit. (Anyone want to buy a good boat in PV?). Yours is the only vlog I regularly watch because I find it more authentic. This life has been a lot more about getting the right boat (geeking out with John Kretschmer and Dick Beaumont) and getting the boat right (systems, hardware, sails, rigging, manuals, phone calls, 'experts', cussing, blah, blah) and brief moments of giddy brilliance as it all comes together into a good day sail or, even better, a passage. Adam - your patience and aptitude is inspiring if not a little intimidating. Khiara - you appear to be made of grit and ambition. I've just learned that you're not in the top 10 of sailing vlogs and I'm devastated. What can I do? Ok - I'll become a patron. What else?

Well done Adam, I also bought electromaax equipment, but I did not have good luck with it, the voltage and current were all over the place, and after many months of emails, they told me I was on my own. They kept telling me all their equipment was working as it should be, blaming the only & year old Trojan gel batteries. Then I got an excellent technician who bypassed the external regulator which worked as it should but was too high a voltage for the gel batteries, so at least we knew the alternator was good. Reconnected and after some more tests he found the alternator digital shant (not the same as yours mine came with the CSR Pro regulator)was defective. Contacted Electromaax but they refused to help, telling me that they are only a supply house. I ended up removing everything and recently installed a Sterling alternator to battery charger. Electromax I found out too late that the support is non-existent, will not deal with them any more I hope you have better luck then me Adam happy sailing.

What a fantastic video mate but looks far to complex to have on a live aboard boat , I’m in the process of fitting a delco remy 28si large case alternator with no external regulation and I would expect to see 100 amps at 12 volts continuous once warm , I’ve been charging my lithium direct from my current alternator for nearly 3 years now and 400 engine hours as a full time live aboard with no issues and no burnt out items , I’m also not a fan of those small case balmars , have a great day and thanks for the video.

Electromaxx was quite a problem for our catamaran installation to include one of our alternators catching 🔥. The customer service would not talk on the phone and we had back and forth emails for 4 months to try and make things right (it was during 2020 and COVID 19) The ancillary equipment you went over is newer and and seems better than the cheap basement programer software and erector set electrical boxes provided to us.

Hi Team, Really pleased that you sorted the charging out ..but .. equally disappointed that Electromaax couldn't/wouldn't help with any back-up service. Whats the point of having fancy "dial-in" functions if they can't even answer the phone or reply to emails promptly. Watching the video, I was thinking .. excellent ...finally a proper setup that I could get for my yacht. Um .. nope !! Not with poor back up service ... or .. is that the way of the world now? I could taste your "contained" frustration .. sign of a well edited video K. Anyway .. stoked that you got it going.. I hope it lasts better than the previous alternators and controllers. I look forward to future episodes. cheers guys

New England or Europe in the summer....back to the Caribbean for the winter. However....with a lot of people....electric demand was constantly high. FINELY..instead of no more tweeking....I got the biggest alternator I could get...250amps. And putting in a regulator rheostat...to keep the Amp out put high, even as the batteries charged. OH....sweet. Even put in an inverter to have 120v to run blenders...etc. But I did that a long time ago....your dial in computer monitoring.....S W E E T!!😳💕🤗

It's always good if the smoke stays inside the wires. Good choice going to K frame/large frame alternator. If you are getting 98*C after an hour with 175 Amps you have a well cooled alternator. True test will be on a hot day with the engine closed up and running for three hours. If you find it gets over 98*C you can run a blower fan to the alternator and or do remote rectifier diodes. You can reduce the engine bay temps quite a bit with a 600cfm blower.

Brilliant! I have installed an even newer setup (but very similar) to yours. It’s the genmax 250 with the Pro-X with separate rectifier and custom serpentine belt pullies etc. Unfortunately after I got it all installed the engine spun a bearing and seized. 🫤working on rebuilding now. I went through a lot of what you did getting it to set up… I didn’t get to where you were and I need to check the output and get the settings dialed. I had a fully charged battery so it didn’t need to charge any. I expected to see it so it’s thing on the maiden voyage when the engine died. I do think the parts seem top quality but yes on some level support is maybe a little less supportive (unfortunately). Haven’t seen my system fulfill its use as yet though.

All those Wifi components... 🤯 I have not heard it happen yet, but it's just a question of time until pirates collaborate with criminal hackers to mess up all your electronic configurations and easily take over your boat because all those electronics suddenly went crazy. Add Wifi extenders to the mix and you can't even "go dark": switching off lights and AIS is cute... but wifi can be tracked, too. Wifi Passwords are just for good conscience... the security mechanisms were broken long ago... there's a reason why all companies tell their employees to _never ever_ use public wifi. And home wifis get hacked constantly (takes 5 minutes max).
