Thanks for the tour. A sweetheart of a boat and glad to see she has such a caring custodian.

Getting onto it early. Bit uncertain how to deal with the seam between the cabin top and the deck

A very pretty spot where you live.and a beautiful boat.The bay looks like a place where you might get blue swimmer crabs.

If our crabs go blue it’s because of the cold water. 😱we don’t get blue swimmers (yummy) this far south. Wish we did.

For your anoide put some thredded rod through the transom and hang your anoide off that and conect your battery, motor and prop to the inside. on the prop I made a brush from some copper tubing with some wire crimped to the tube and that sits on the prop and thats hooked up a bit like and old record needle and then a wire from that to the rod. 🏴☠

That sounds like the kind of advice you would get from someone that knows!

No, don't ground a wooden boat internally please!! If that prop shaft is isolated go no anodes or one on end of prop shaft if you have too. Look up on the Waitemata woodies webpage about over anoding and ground bussing wooden boats, it creates the same chemical reaction as wood pulping. @@SmallSailboatCruising

She is a nice little cruiser. I am thinking about building something similar, but in clinker plywood. A motor is the only sticking point at the moment. There were quite a few of this sort of vessel around when I was a young bloke. This was in the southern channel area, Cygnet to Dover. Most being covered in cray dinghies from when the fishermen went to bigger boats. Do you anneal the copper washers on the banjo fitting? You might have to try fibre washers instead. Cheers!

It’s a great concept. Good as an overnighter. Light weight has it advantages

Thanks for the ideas on the washers. I wasn’t aware of either of those options. I’ll try annealing as only one is affected. Then I could try the fibre option. It’s only a problem when I turn the stop cock off.

@SmallSailboatCruising the old engines used copper headgaskets. Just heat them to a dull red (in low light) then let them cool or dip in water. It works either way. They will then be soft and conform to surface imperfections.

ps The rod is above the waterline and the anoide wire is long enough that it won't reach the prop and the anoide is pulled up on deck when sailing
@SmallSailboatCruising4 ай бұрын
Thanks for that. Sounds like an effective system.

Are you able to step the mast yourself or do you need a crane etc...?
@SmallSailboatCruising4 ай бұрын
It took a bit of learning single handed. I had one or two scares. But it doesn’t require any form of mechanical aid. I did a video on it. I called it “near catastrophe”. 😵💫

An electric fuel pump might make the starting easier. Temporarily on only when starting.

@@bryonholland5041 Now that sounds like a winner.

Why not fit a prop anode over the nut? I ‘ve had one on mine for years. Works well.
