I'm married to a Filipina, and we try to return to her home once a year so she can visit the family. We usually stay a few weeks up to a few months at a time. In the 13 years I have been traveling to and from the Philippines, I can say this about its people; they are some of the most hard-working, giving, generous, and friendly people I have met out of all the places I've been. And I have been to several places. I have traveled the entire continental US (48 States), Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, Canada, Mexico, and S. Korea. What I have gathered in my travels is that the people with the least in life turn out to be the most generous. Go figure.

I've been in the Philippines last year and I'm amazed by their kindness, they let you try some foods for free without asking in return, they are just so happy making new friends from other country, it makes me feel like I'm part of their family, I hope I can go back to the Philippines ☹️, I have never felt loved the way I felt when I was in the Philippines. Too bad you can't see them smile anymore because of the pandemic, it is required to wear a facemask

KASI NGA IBAT IBANG LANGUANGE NILA. bisaya is a language. visayas is a place. 2 different things. binisaya is HOW bisaya people speak. (mostly common in visayas area) waray waray is HOW waray people speak. ( MAINLY by abaknon which are people in samar) and lumalayo ka na sa topic. ang sabi lang ng commenter, people there speak 3 language, and the next commenter said its should be 4 because depending on the area, people are speaking their more native language, in this case, waray. again... waray is a languange, not a dialect. if it was a dialect, then a bisaya SHOULD understand if a waray would talk to him/her in sentences. but as i said.. a bisaya would not understand BECAUSE IT IS ANOTHER LANGUAGE. language pinag uusapan dito, not ethnicity.

Brilliant video. I loved it. I have visited Phillippines many times first going there in 1982. It's a wonderful country. Filipinos are well recognised as first class seamen and the local craft are crazy fabulous. Practicality ahead of design. The smaller boats are called 'banka' or 'pump boats' and are ranked according to how many cylinders the engine has. Astonishgly fast. Trying to be smart I once paid a fisherman to take me on his banka from Bohol to Camiguin Island, a distance of about 45 miles. Quite an experience surfing for hours over an 8 foot sea and I was more than impressed watching the boat driver weaving through the troughs until he saw a good wave and then up we'd pop on to the crest to surf like crazy. Yes Filipinos.... one of the world's better people. Hoping one day the political troulbes there may be solved. Fingers crossed. (Addicted to the place... married to a Filipino too. :) )

Another fun fact, if they're speaking in their native tongue it doesn't immediately means they are speaking Tagalog/Filipino. Filipinos have different language and dialects for every region, in short Filipinos won't understand each other, only if we speak Tagalog or English.

This is one of the most fascinating sailing videos I have ever seen. I lived in Manila for a couple of years in the early '90s, and love the Philippines. But I had never been exposed to these fishing operations-- they are out of sight of the landlubbers like me. You did a fantastic job of describing all of the operations and showing the technical details of the "mother ship" and the small boats. About 25 percent of all sailors on commercial ships all over the world comes from the Philippines. There are so many perhaps because the Philippines is an archipelago and Filipinos have English as one of their two official languages apart from the fact that they are hardworking, good natured and easy to get along with.

Yep but sometimes when we talk to foreigns we just say "okay, ehummm, yes yes, over there, no problem, its okay, here here here" simple and basic english words but you can already understand even if its not in a complete sentence😂

The ancient Filipinos are seafarers travelling in vessels called "balangay" an Austronesian word which means boat. The smallest political unit of the Philippines is called barangay which is from the word "balangay". The Balangay (formerly synonymous with Butuan boat) is a plank boat adjoined by a carved-out plank edged through pins and dowels. It was first mentioned in the 16th Century in the Chronicles of Pigafetta, and is known as the oldest watercraft found in the Philippines. The oldest known balangay has been carbon-dated to 320 CE. The balangay was the first wooden watercraft excavated in Southeast Asia and is evidence of early Filipino craftsmanship and their seamanship skills during pre-colonial times. The Balanghai Festival is also a celebration in Butuan, Agusan del Norte to commemorate the coming of the early migrants that settled the Philippines, on board the Balangay boats. When the first Spaniards arrived in the 16th century, they found the Filipinos living in well-organized independent villages called barangays. The name barangay originated from balangay, the Austronesian word for "sailboat"

Thanks. Really interesting. Love the explosion of colors on those boats. I wonder if those fishermen are finding their livelihoods challenged by climate change. Here in Micronesia, traditional navigators who cover massive distances between Pacific islands using currents and stars report that their mastery of the ocean is compromised by subtle changes in the environment.
