Yeah! We are YT famous! We are the boat, SV My Pleasure, that passed you in Elizabeth City by the bridge (6:41 in this video!) We are friends of SV Booger (they are watching our house in Cambridge for us!) We actually caught up with you guys and chatted via radio briefly weeks later in FL! So fun to relive parts of our trip through your videos! Dismal Swamp was sooo beautiful... and soooo cold! The night you anchored, we were at the visitor center and got up early to make the 1st lock! It was 27° at 6:30am! We are on our way back north now and planning to skip Alligator River and go back via Pamlico Sound and Manteo - so good intel watching your videos too!

OMG, the intro is hilarious!!! As someone who sails in Pacific Northwest waters, I would recommend two things you need to stay warm: wool and waterproofing. Start with a thin, breathable base layer of wool (long johns) and then add layers until you feel cozy. Top it off with a waterproof layer, like your HH pants & ski coat. Same goes for your feet, hands, and head: wool + cozy + waterproof. Even if it's not raining, the waterproof layer keeps the wind out.

Watching a YT channel where Sophie interviewed you, you indicated a bimini (hardtop?) was on your list improvements to your boat. I'm sure you may have looked at methods to construct, but I thought I would mention 3 cruisers YTubes how they did it DIY 1) Jessica and Ryan 2 yrs ago. They have a catamaran but their method was interesting. Attached 4'x8' thin luan sheets to their bimini poles/structure. Filled in the grain with resin. Coated surface with release chemical. Laid up fiberglas/ foam sheet/fiberglas sandwich. Took off structure and removed the luan. Then bolted hartop bimini to poles/ribs. 2) Sailing Spoomdrifters 2 yrs ago. They made their hardtop from 4'x8' sheets of PVC ($100 each at big box stores), edge- glued them together and attached to bimini poles and ribs. One complaint is it was slippery and would add nonskid. 3)Sailing GBU 2+ yrs ago- similar method to above but did not edge-glue sheets.

Thanks for the tips! We've seen a couple of these in our research.

@@BeauAndBrandy Another DIY hardtop build can be found in "thisratsailed" blogspot. Done for a catamaran by owner I know, The project starts in August 2015 and goes for several months as it was constructed under a 10'x10' popup tent. Involves creating a wooden frame using curved/shaped 2x4s and plywood, plus sanding, fairing, release agent, gelcoat, foam sheets, fiberglas and resin. There are many pics taken during construction. The final product is extremely strong, has a mainsail viewing window and 2 large 320w solar panels.

@beauandbrandy, because you are a fully electric vessel and I know you recently installed an electric windlass (what a convenience) how did you manage the batteries for house vs electric motor vs windlass? In a typical marine diesel engine boat you would raise@the engine dev up to 1500rpm while running the windlass? You don’t have a diesel therefore no alternator therefore no increased rpm procedure while using your windlass… how does that work? Thanks in advance PS: considering going all electric SV Pinch Me, Chesapeake Bay
