Join us for an immersive experience into the world of sailing. From sun up to sundown, an entire day. Surrounded by the sights and sounds of open ocean. Where we are the last line of defense for keeping ourselves and our sailboat safe and comfortable. A stream of consciousness and expression of emotion accompanied by beautiful classical piano music by Megan Wofford.
Sailing is that and so much more. We hope that you feel as though you are with us in the cockpit, on the foredeck, feeling the wind and the motion of Seawind as she rocks back and forth with the waves. Learning along with us new things about our boat and about us.

Don’t be so hard on yourself Parker. Knowing “If this then this” would be nice but “If this then not this” will help with the learning as well. Thanks for sharing your travels.

Loved this episode! A lot of sailing channels only show a 30 second montage of sailing between destinations. I loved seeing more of what the actual sailing is like.

Great footage! Yes, jibe down the rum line. More comfortable in a confused sea and you get some added speed working the lifts on the broad reach. Tighten up on the vang to reduce rolling. I only go wing on wing and pole out the jib when in a narrow sealane. Dead running is hard on the gear, helm, and helmsman.

Thanks for the information, Dale! I think we will employ broad reaching more often. The change in speed and comfort was amazing! And we arrived at our destination at the same time even though we traveled a longer distance.

Back in a few of your earlier videos you were having issues with the anchor rode getting wrapped around your keel. Is there something that you have learned to do to prevent this as it had happened to me recently. Conditions were the wind was blowing in one direction and the current was flowing opposite. When the wind would stop of lighten I would start drifting over my rode.

We have a stern anchor that could be deployed to hold our boat in a fixed direction but haven't tried it yet. Our solution in the situation you are referring to was to make a bridle that the boat would hang from by tying a long line to the anchor chain underwater, and then leading it back to the primary winch to pull our stern towards the wind, facing our bow into the swell to stop the rolling. It worked very well! As far as current overpowering wind in an anchorage, the stern anchor technique would be best I think.

Ah the tangled furler line..... always a blast when deploying a headsail under way and single handed. If it were me, there would have been about three minutes of censor beeping added to the footage to cover up the continuous stream of swear words.....Btw, I'm a little surprised you're only able to squeeze out 5.5 -6 knots with 17 to 23 knots of wind behind you. Perhaps you need more sail up. With the standard ketch rig Seawind II, I'm usually able to run 6-7 knots consistently in those conditions with brief wave surfing spurts around 8 knots. Are you running with the transmission in neutral or locked in gear? Aren't you set up with a cutter/staysail rig? I don't believe I've seen a staysail deployed on your boat yet. It looks like you could use a larger headsail. In 20 knot winds on a broad reach, I'll usually reach hull speed with just the headsail and mizzen up ( headsail is a 140 though). Btw, this was your best video yet IMHO - captured the "on deck" experience very well.

Thank you so much, Cj! We were sailing pretty conservatively that day. 2 reefs in the main and our 115% jib reefed to around 100%. Being in around 15 feet of water, 20 knots gets kinda sloppy but we for for sure severely under canvased. And yes the old tangled furler line..never without some swear words at some point! Haha! Your kind words mean so much to Katy and I. I’m very glad you (and other people from the other comments) are happy with how we captured the on deck experience! 😊
