EP22 - Catalina 30 Sailboat Projects & Day Sail in Long Beach

This video has a random bag of small projects and upgrades that I've wanted to show you. We do a quick unboxing of my new Lofrans Royal manual windlass that I have yet to install (I'm still trying to figure out the best way to do it). Then we take a close look at the fascinating little creatures called "By-The-Wind Sailors". One of them floated up to my dock and I filmed it. Then we do a few small boat projects before we take a nice day sail with my son Orion and out pups.

I would if my dogs were onboard more often but nets get in the way of lines and winches sometimes plus I just don’t really need it. Cheers! 🤙🏼

The fluke on my Mantus anchor is so long that it leaves no room in front of the anchor locker for the windlass. I thought about offsetting it to one side but that may render the capstan side useless. The way the chain drops behind the windlass makes it a difficult choice to install it behind my anchor locker (out of the way of the fluke). So I’m fabricating a wood base and a stainless ramp that will allow the chain to fall a certain way. So as you can tell I’m still figuring out the best way to do it. I don’t want to drill holes in the boat until I know it’s going to work. So it’s a slow process but I’m working on it. Pretty sure Orion and one of his buddies will be joining me for Keeldraggerpalooza 🤙🏼

I plan to have fun on my boat. 😂 I won’t be living on it any time soon but I do have plans for some longer passages in the near future. Cheers!
