What a nice friend to have. Quite surprising for her to pass at 15 years considering the lifespan of the average African Gray. It's always difficult to choose between items in the boat shop as the manufactures always happen to have the best product on the market. EXCELLENT idea about doing away with the (loud) Jabsco RW pump and adding a remote pump instead. I installed a Raritan RW-flush toilet recently and all they'd done was included a remote pump of their own choosing with the same sort of common-switch arrangement as what you describe here. Kudos for coming up with an original solution (which had to have been cheaper than paying PAR/Jabsco for theirs! :)

Thanks Rick! Good info as I will be reworking my Island Trader 40' Ketch I just purchased last month. I am just finishing up a Shanty Boat project and the LED lights are excellent for use in Tiny Houses and any RV running 12 volts.

Very informative. I'm looking at buying another sailboat this winter and your video gave me a few things to think about…especially the toilet. I used to store a small chemical toilet in the aft settee in case of an emergency. You are so correct when you stated that they always fail at the worst time. I know this vlog is older but I guess there's a lot of vlogs I still haven't even watched! What I want to comment on is ..... You have such a wealth of information, Rick! I shared your channel with my uncle Jerry about a week ago because I know he has had a great interest in sailing from a long time ago. And he actually did want to sail. But I believe he might have changed his mind because of all the serious health problems in my family (and now including me, unfortunately). But he still has a lot of sailing knowledge under his belt. As a matter of fact (here's a secret), when I first checked out your channel, I was actually thinking of my uncle because I was really curious what it was all about. Spot on Rick I have watched all your video's they are all great ! I assume you kind of retired from the rat race and ran away to sea? Have you had any "I wish I hadn't done this trip moments? In my sailing experience ( since I was 10) the most memorable are the encounters with freaky weather with no horizon land in sight ! Anyway fair seas to you, keep up the great storytelling ! hi just a thought, the separate switch for the pump is ok but unless you fit a delay on timer to the pump it will do the same cycling problem, as soon as the switch is detects water it will run the pump then as soon as the water clears the switch it will stop. the water will run back and rase the water level and cover the switch again. if you fit a delay on timer then time how much extra time it takes to empty after clearing the switch, then set the delay on timer to this you will end up with the solution you require. kind regards mark

I really enjoyed watching this video. It is very different from the usual but presents so much information about daily usage of important features on a sailboat whether it is for charter or live aboard. Can you also bring to life the on deck features of Sophisticated Lady, from the mast to the sails, to winches, standing riggings? +Actual simmer Yes, I run a main ships inverter that powers the outlets in the cabins and galley.. and a smaller inverter that is specifically just for the laptops and hard drives when I'm working so I don't have to run the whole house system all day long and run down the batteries unnecessarily.

Rick I can't help but imagine that you want the same roaming underwater. Ever thought of getting some kind of underwater ROV to show off various reefs? With regards to your line, put two inline check valves just past the outfeed of your pump. You can even Tee it off and put your manual pump on a second line which joins up again. Something is wrong with your current check valve if it's coming back into your electric pump. And curious about your computer setup. Do you switch to the high voltage DC instead of running the power to AC to push the brick? I'm assuming you're on a MacBook of some sort.

+BeeRich33 I actually have exactly what you describe with the 2 check valves back to back.. they still leak back down to sump over time.. but the addition of the new remote activation switch has eliminated the problem of the constant cycling of the pump. Not sure what you mean about the power... I use a small 12V inverter of about 600w that converts to 120v and then the laptop power supplies plug into that.

+Anthony Johnson They usually make them really hard to open by folding tabs over which have to be carefully bent straight and then folded back down without snapping them once you finish the brush change. Depending on your budget, would you rather spend that time doing something else?
