Love the drone footage! Really shows what a graceful, ocean crossing machine she is! Drifter up, wind aft of the beam, flat seas, dream sailing on a tri!

Thanks again Jason - It's really interesting to see someone go through the tracking and decisions needed on an ocean crossing. I loved the footage of Spirit gliding through the water. I love the feel of getting my Chamberlin gliding along in the light stuff with the reacher or kite up - making almost windspeed at the correct angle and yet she feels as stable as a table - it's super champagne sailing. Something I would not trade for anything and it makes me feel I am getting something for free - your shots got me thinking of that again.

Ocean sailing DOES NOT get any better than this! 7 knots boat speed over smooth, tropical water...... you'd think you were in sheltered waters, not crossing the Coral Sea! Of course, a heavy displacement monohull would be wallowing, pitching, rolling & yawing in these conditions. The mainsail would be slatting and driving the crew mental...... and you'd barely be doing 3 knots. So, the iron mainsail would be fired up instead. But the Hammerhead is just casually stretching it's legs, gliding along effortlessly.

Man she’s a looker… just sliding along! Q - have you got twin backstays that are adjustable / able to be eased? Just wondering how you run a flat top main with them…
@TrimaranSpiritXL19 күн бұрын
Thanks 🙏 No back stays on a multihull as the shrouds run aft. More performance based multis such as Spirit do use running back stays though which allow for the square too.
@PN_4817 күн бұрын
@@TrimaranSpiritXLTa. So we have twin headsails, straight up /vertical caps and lowers connected to chainplates on the cabin top, and then additional caps and runners going aft of the mast about 6ft and connected to the amas, plus a backstay to the transom. A rigger down in Grenada suggested we could ditch the backstay as we already had solid triangulation of the rig, but then the designer / builder would’ve fitted backstays for a reason…. Right? We’re swapping mains next year and I’d like to go for a flat top or big roach, so just thinking of ways around our current backstay setup.
