My wife and I are building a sprinter so she can go with me to work. (Helicopter field mechanic) This will save us THOUSANDS a year, and will make the boat much easier to get next year. ;)

Cost of gas, pollution and limited range vs world wide range with FREE non polluting wind = NO Challenge: Sailing winds hands and feet down in every way possible except perhaps one (help can be a bit further away but ONLY if you cruise long distance vs shore hopping :-) Got to love sailing to the max and everyone on earth should experience it at least once! We love you guys and gals :-) Most of all, always arrive alive = be safe to the max, NEVER be in a hurry and always carry at least 2 but better to have 3 of anything your life depends on (or even major things you really need). If a whisker pole etc is even important to you (for that trip) then have 2 and a way to fix them also.

You might have hooked them into their next adventures on a sailboat next time. Loved how you conquered the board surfing thing, bound and determined Not to fail. I so enjoy “being” with you kids on your beautiful UMA!

The excitement in the guy's voice when he is talking about sailing Uma reminds me of my first time at the tiller. I felt so connected! I could feel the boat, tiller, sails, everything! It was all natural and instinctive. When it is that right, you always want to return to it.

@terrycavender3 жыл бұрын
@@i_sabbel well, you can do it, working on mine, it will happen in a few months. No crew as of yet for me either, no "partner in crime" as of yet. This is a concern for me, I watched a video about two brothers who bought a Choy Lee from an estate, the owner died sitting on the head while a anchor. Not going to die anytime soon, but somebody to handle dock lines would be nice. 😁

When connecting a spinnaker pole to a headsail it works much better if you use a topping lift & kicker. That way you can get better shape into the headsail by lifting or locking in the height of the clew. This will allow you to sail better angles or use it in light air without collapsing the leech. Also, I noticed you clipped the pole end in the bowline. That’s probably why your last one broke. Clip it to the sheet & tie tighter bowlines.

Yeah baby, my parents had a van in the 70’s with a bed in it! If it was rocking, you didn’t go near it!! Lol. And cooling that van just depends on where exactly it’s at? If they can get off the road into a wooded area with canopy, I’ll bet it’s really cool and! Like they say in real estate, “location, location, location”. Just like my old pop up camper was great in woods, but miserable in the sun. Good to see you guys living you dream, you’ve met some great people along the way, all interesting with great life experiences and stories to tell.

I've never seen anyone get up on the board that way before. Normally the rider is floating with their heals on the board. When the rope tightens up you push down with your heals and the board flips up on edge. From there it's just like getting up on a wakeboard.

As a part time Vanlifer (who is thinking about transitioning to a sailboat) the big drawback of my Sprinter van is the cost of fuel. Not that there aren't costs associated with sailing of course, but just to move costs fuel.... The ability to move a boat without fuel.... crazy.
