Ep. 39 Having crossed the Atlantic from West to East in 2019 she has now crossed from East to West. Wave Rover arrives in the Port of Le Marin on the Island of Martinique. Also in this episode I showcase a typical meal preparation while at sea.

Impressed. I lived on a small boat almost the same as yours. So small you couldn't stand up inside. I clocked some miles in her going places people told me I was mad to go, but I would have never even considered for a moment crossing an ocean in her. Your planning and organization skills must be very high.

Fun fact. Adding salt does the opposite of making water boil faster. Instead, it makes it take longer for the water to boil. The salt actually increases the boiling point of the water. The water gets hotter before it reaches the boiling point, which in effect, will cook your food faster, without pressurizing the pot (with a loose lid, or in a pressure cooker).

Great job! People seem to forget that a small (cheap, in comparison) boat can cross oceans, if well prepared. It's like bicycle: the main asset, is not the bike, but the person who is pedalling. As I read somewhere, put a tennis-table ball in a terrible storm, it will come out undamaged. A 50 footer, maybe not so sure... As a frenchman and a cook (by need, by love and by nature) I find your cooking quite "interesting", though out of my usual rules :) ! How about taking on board a few tomato pulp cans, they are cheap and useful. Would be a good addition to your sardines-eggs-rice (respect). Personnally, I can hardly cook without frying onions first. But frying is not possible in a small boat, would get everything oily. You would need an outdoors "kitchen", like everybody in Carribbean use. Cockpit hoven/ barbecue? Possible? And, no offense, certainly not, but throwing the sardines canned oil, I would not do that. It's ok for cooking, specially if olive oil, and it contains a lot of omega 3 (they say are good for you, whatever they are). Nice video. Specially because I love Martinique, that's where my beloved wife is from, and that's where I want to nend my days. Take care, Patrick

Hello Alan, well done, dealing with the knock down, sorting things out and carrying on successfully to port, the necessary skills of an ocean crossing skipper. Thanks for sharing your culinary skills, on a small boat, one pot meals area a must. Interesting to see how you can get your proper nutrition with minimum resources.

Fabulous video, Alan. I would imagine you'll be setting up an "Eatwith" account to allow you to entertain guests on board the next time you're in port. Speaking of which. . . that might be the wine you will be serving. You really do present making life as being easy--what a gift. Sorry my friend, but I'm not a big sardine fan. My dad can attest to that when I was 4 years old! It wasn't pretty. Darryl

You know, . . . . I actually like this video. Some would say it’s as boring to as fuck. And I’d “say, which part?” “The cooking part.” “Oh, you mean the part where he just cooked and didn’t move much?” “Yeah, that’s what I mean.” “Dude, did you not watch the window for a couple seconds and see how much he was getting tossed around? I mean just watch some of the quick movements on the stove and how he stayed pretty still.” At which point they would give a knowing nod with a, “good point.”
