Hi Ben and MP. I am an Auto and Road transport trainer with a significant amount of marine repair time. I would prefer to see you use a wire reinforced rubber hose for that bypass pipe ( only 2 joins and zero corrosion issues) rather than steel ( 4 joins, lots of welded terminations to fail and steel rusts). Spare rubber hose is cheap and easy to carry in case of a failure. Hard to repar a steel pipe on the high seas.
@davidhakes3884 Жыл бұрын
I agree that would be optimum and spares at sea are Great to have.

Please fit a sea-strainer between your engine cooling intake through hull and the water pump. It will not only save your pump from both rapid wear due to grit, sand and crustaceans but will also prevent sudden catastrophic failure when it inevitably ingests something more solid. It also gives you a visual reference to check seawater cooling flow through the clear top panel and makes cleaning out the garbage that it catches a 3 minute job.

yes and clear pipe plus dont let the rubber pipe touch anything or it will most likely rub through

Definitely 4, same as hull. You have a very romantic boat and a bichromatic theme, wood, and one paint colour, would balance a little of modern design without compromising your romance. ...on that note, a hull white upholstery theme in the cockpit would do equally well. ❤ you all

GREEN 1, always avoid blue at sea. At sea, blue is everywhere: the water, the sky. After weeks and months you become sick of blue, some years later you're going mad! Red is also naturally present at sunrise and sunset. What you really miss is green and wood. You already have plenty of wood. So...

Hi, Ben, It seams that you are going to cool your gear box with the hot water coming out from the heat exchanger. I think the better option would be to connect the gearbox cooling unit to the water pump:) Excuse me if i am not the first one telling you this. Respect for tremendous effort you guys are up to!
@dw____3635 Жыл бұрын
also in the configuration, the pressure drop between the inlet and the outlet of the gearbox cooler may be so small that it barely gets and circulation
@straxgasser29433 ай бұрын
@@dw____3635 Yes, thought that too once it was shown at kzbin.info/www/bejne/omi0Z6mCosx0bK8 that the gearbox cooling water source was right next to the gearbox cooling water return (on the exhaust pipe). Even if you feed the gearbox directly from the sea water pump you may want to add a valve into either of the engine or gearbox heat exchanger routes becaue water always takes the route of least resistance and that way you can control the balance of water volume between those two.

The two dark colors brings out the beauty of the wood. I would go with #6, #3 would be my second choice.
@bruce5285 Жыл бұрын
3 (darkish green). Consider opting for the dark green for the boat cabin exterior. This shade offers a harmonious contrast to the blue water, wood window trim and white hull, ensuring a subtle yet distinctive presence. It strikes a balance by being dark enough to avoid appearing black in low light but not too light to show dirt easily. This unique choice not only stands out from common selections but also minimizes sun reflection, preventing a hot deck, and creates a serene, natural oasis amidst the sea of blue.
@cliffingram270 Жыл бұрын

As someone who's dealing a bit with colors day by day I'd say #3 would make Yaba absolutely looking gorgeous. But hey, I'm not living on a boat in a quite hot area, so not sure about heat and so on. But having a boat made from rather junky bits of timber (which was used for millennia's for its insulating properties) I'd think heat shouldn't be such a big deal, or am I wrong? However, great work you're doing!

I'd leave the roof white to shed off the heat ,but I'd paint the cabin either a light green or the light blue. Something bright would make it look tacky. My first choice is number 2 or I like 5 as well. But I think the light green number 2 would look the best. Instead of using a varnish on anything exposed to the sun or water ,look into using a good tung oil or even linseed oil. It's not shiny but if it starts to weather you just recoat the wood and it's good for months. I can't say enough about not using varnish, it will Crack or start to discolor in a very short time from the sun and then you have to sand it off and the wood will not look the same. Spar oil is another good choice for treating wood exposed to the elements.

I like that idea, but will the wood keep its quality? As long? Maybe they could fit some wood canevaor bamboo grid, kinda, above the varnish coated wood ? If the wood specie get old a good way that greyish natural color is of course the best.
@robm.4512 Жыл бұрын
Totally agree. I’ll also add that varnished decks eventually end up slippery when wet, even if you add quartz or silica sand to the topcoat. The best deck treatment I’ve ever found is a regular swill and scrub with seawater and a medium stiff broom, brushing across the grain never along it. If you scrub along the grain it removes the softer wood between the hard grain lines and the deck will need refinishing much sooner. The salt in seawater acts as a preservative because once the water has evaporated the high concentration of salts prevents rot moulds and fungi from developing, that’s why it’s never a good idea to rinse decks off with fresh water and why you might also consider giving them some love with a seawater swill after heavy rain. Cheers, R. 😎👍🍻
