Hi Matt and Amy I've been following throughout your travels. Enjoyed every minute. And now you're doing what I'd spent years planning to do in my retirement (2021). A diagnosis of terminal cancer has meant that I have now got to live my dream through your videos, If you haven't got there already it would be great know when/if you are in Milford Haven, my home port. I'd love to meet you both to thank you for all the pleasure you've given me over the last 7 years and, of course, a chance to talk sailing over a glass or two. Thanks again. Fair winds, Andy

@@skorrie3849 Glaciers were formed in New Zealand during the last ice age and increased more so, during that mini ice age. Now that we aren't(thankfully) enduring these events, people want to get hysterical about the glaciers retreating. The earth is not a constant, but simple minded people can't get their brains to understand that. They crave continuity.

Spot on. I found this in researching Norse Westerly migration where I learned the terms "climate optimum" and "little climate optimum" regarding this same time period. The climate is changing because it has always been changing. We should learn to be good stewards but not at the cost of antihumanist energy policy.
@MapleT7224 ай бұрын
The climate has always changed. Our planet has been encased in ice at least six times, then warmed with the ice receding to the poles. We are effectively at the end of an ice age. A natural warming cycle has been used to force change. They edited out the medieval warming period data to make the narrative work.

I don't know if it's like Iceland but driftwood there was very valuable (stealing it was punishable by death) so it wold seem unlikely that they'd have burnt it in the long houses given a pretty much free supply of peat.

You're so used to it getting dark at more-or-less the same time year round, between the two lines of the tropics. And I warned you - "You're in for a shock when you're sailing in the Artic". Now you've had a eye-opener introduction in the Shetlands. Next year, you'll find the west coast of Greenland much more sunny with clear skies, in a climate much more North American than western European. 'You won't know the difference between night and day.' Definitely your viewers should keep watching.!!

Hi, another great chillaxing video :) jfyi, t's not a "Scottish roost". Roost comes from Old Norse "Røst" meaning a tidal race where two tides meet. Sumburgh Roost is where the North Atlantic meets the North Sea. Also, we're not "The Shetlands". That's like saying "The Englands, The Scotlands or The Norways"!.

Very interesting. Thanks. A couple of questions: Do you bring your anchor inboard on long offshore passages and do you use a preventer taken to the bow or do you use a boom brake? Thanks.
@SailingYachtFlorence4 ай бұрын
Anchor stays on the bow roller securely lashed in place. Preventer, although not all the way to the bow or end of boom, but we know above 20 knots we don't need a mainsail as we don't go much faster, so we just take the main down at that point so which is the ultimate preventer!
