Congratulations to you both, fantastic refit, and awesome upgrade. All the best for your launch

would be a lot easier to hand steer with a mid cockpit as you're under cover. I crewed a huge steel hulled double ended ketch back in the day & someone was almost always on the helm because of that. however there were 3 of us which helped. we also always had safety lines clipped to us when running around topside outside the cockpit. you know if you get knocked overboard in these conditions with no life jacket your chances of survival are just about zero. that boat had a full keel with an 8 foot draft though so it was more suitable for open ocean than the islands like the Bahamas. It was built in the 30's you don't find double enders anymore but they had a HUGE advantage in a following sea. they also tended to have really wide beams because of the limited fore and aft space but unfortunately this made them a slow "pregnant guppy". One advantage though is that the forecastle did NOT have any berths as all berths were gimbled. the head was up there behind the anchor locker because this boat carried a lot of anchor chain as the captain didn't trust moorings. this was in the 60's you're only young like bull once so enjoy the time that you have there because before you know it guess what...

Love your videos. I do have a concern about your installation of your lithium bank. Are you sure it's a good idea to run your windless off your lithium. Lithium doesn't like sudden high amp loads. That's why starter batteries are still led. I think you would enjoy watching some video's from" Emily and Clarks Adventures". Clark is an Engineer. He talks about mixing led and lithium. He really knows his stuff.

Greetings. My name is Vince. I have never sailed and yet have dreamed of ocean sailing for many years. Your films only heighten my desire to take the plunge, if you can forgive the pun, and join a sailing club before committing myself to even sailing across the English Channel to France. Thank you for your inspiration and sharing the minutiae and opening my eyes to what I must learn. Kindest regards.

Definitely the best and most informative about rigging-up and sailing with an asymmetric. Have literally just bought an one off a sailing club buddy and happened to find your video when looking into what's on KZbin about them, and who should pop first in the results! 🙂 Has it been spiced-rum-o-clock yet? Enjoy.

That is quite beautiful work on the battery and new electrical panel installations, and the gel coat repair was … well, invisible, which it the ultimate indication of a lovely job.

You did a good job of making it look as threatening as it really is on camera. It always looks so much less "exciting" on footage later on. When we move aboard and do extended passages, we plan to have 6 on board if we're going more than about 500 nm. Pretty tough with only two.

It's such a pleasure to watch your progress with Florence. I'm a retired Electrical Engineer and would not have done any better installation than you have just completed. It is good to see your pride in this work. Florence will be a safer vessel for you and, as one of the commenters notes, you know your installation in depth and be much better positioned to troubleshoot and solve the issues that inevitably arise. Very best to you both.

It is an amazing path the 2 of you accomplished. While waiting for our boatyard to finish our 50year old girl, sitting in an airbnb for 8 month and working instead of grinding makes me a little sad but (!!!!) my back is aching at the same time. I would not have had the bones to DIY all the great work you did. C.o.n.g.r.a.t.u.l.a.t.i.o.n.s. All the best for the three of you ⛵

Beautiful footage.thanks for sharing. Btw. My grandma told me to wear shoes onboard when conditions are changing. First thing to do. I always did. Until a vacation in Croatia and I rented a 16m2 for the morning and instantly broke a toe because I was barefooted. Blood all over. Slippery. Panicking kids. Ruined my day and remaining 2 weeks of vacation.

Buongiorno, mi permetto di suggerirvi di usare epoxy resin trasparente con filtro u.v. su tutti i legni : aspetto meraviglioso, grandissima resistenza e praticamente nessuno assorbimento di umidità. Saluti dalla Sicilia

It's been a long time since I've put antifouling paint on the bottom of a boat. I enjoyed parts of it, hanging out in the boat shed with my dad, with the yachts swelling out above all around, like the columns of a cathedral. Thanks for the memory.

I saw the kids you picked up, hopping merrily along the side of your boat in mid ocean. It's nice to be to offer this kind of gesture away from all the health and safety nonsense that we have here, particularly in Britain. And the joke is - the nation is no happier for it.!! In Brasil, I found most people MUCH happier than here, and I was wondering what were your findings in general during your travels.

Would you two be able to handle an Oyster 56, just the two of you, or would it be too difficult. A friend told me that it would be easier due to its size and systems..

Do you think it a good idea to swim out at ocean ? Me, i would think its much safer to wait till you get to one of the many beaches you came to. In Brasil, i would often be in the water with my friends for up to four hours at a time, and you can sit in the water in a deck chair with a picnic table, but in the ocean you can't do that.

I just discovered your channel and I love it... I have watched many different sailing channels and I found interest in only a few of them, including yours ! Simple, clear, technical stuff, and your english is perfectly understandable for a french guy like me ! Feel free to stop by in south Brittany when setting sail again :)

Matt, Amy, WELL DONE!!! Doing this work yourselves will yield way more benefit than saving money. You will also KNOW the systems; so, when things go wrong, you will have earned excellent repair credentials. Good on you both. I have watched you a long time. I truly wanted to be on dock to welcome you home. As long as you make these videos I will watch. My heart is with you. May God be with you and bless you. Thanks again…from East Tennessee. P.S. Awesome upgrade! Congratulations 🎉 love y’all … Anybody out there upgraded to a 48V system? I’m upgrading my catalina385 to a 48V system with 4x12V 315A batteries … probably overkill
@artsmith10310 күн бұрын
Marine equipment is such low amperage or wattage, I don't see the benefit to going 48V. Plus 16ga wire is often pretty low quality so 14ga is as small as I use and even 12V almost never exceeds its wattage rating.
@SailingFearKnot9 күн бұрын
@@artsmith103 yea Art I’m not sure - supposedly it’s more efficient 🤷🏻♂️- the 48V 5000W inverter is supposedly more efficient but I don’t know - I am spending the money on it though 😆 - and I’ll be able to run AC on the hook if I so desire off the batteries 🤷🏻♂️💪
@artsmith1039 күн бұрын
@@SailingFearKnot Watch the quality of the shielding with 16ga and smaller. Often lower quality vs UV, Oil, moisture, etc. Make sure your solar panels and charge controllers are compatible with 48V. Typical RV solar is 18V, residential is 35V so both need to be wired in series for 48V. Then you have exasperated shade issues with solar in series. My current boat is only 26ft but I've added a lot of electrical but I could never justify even 24V. Edit: For people with 48V auxiliary, it's a whole different ball game.
