This was filmed in 1976...a lifetime ago to some. I wonder how some of those lads have fared over the years.

I was on the "Ark" for this trip, a young Junior Stoker, 17yrs old, this was my first real trip, away from home for 6months. I'm now 64, and living in Andover, I look back on my time spent on this ship with very fond memories. It's probably worth noting that a lot of us are still in touch with each other through Facebook.

How come HM Customs officers wear RN insignia?
@Jeffybonbon5 жыл бұрын
customs officers are not commissioned like RN officers they are civil servants
@mjspice1007 ай бұрын
Late response I know but back in the day HM customs vessels were “officered” by RN officers who were on half pay which is why they to this day have naval style uniforms and officer rank insignia. There has always been a close association with HM Customs and the sea. They are a civilian force, their rank badges don’t necessarily correspond to naval ranks. In terms of police ranks, a single gold ring (Sub Lt in the RN) corresponds to a Police Constable, two gold rings (Lt in the RN) to a Police Sgt, what looks like to Lt Commander rank badge corresponds to an Inspector etc.
