Puts it into perspective when you see reality TV shows where Z list "celebrities" are crying because they haven't seen their families for two weeks. That lad at the end hadn't seen his wife and daughter for several months and had also missed the birth of his son. Just sayin.....

yes. he was there as a guest as he lived in nearby hinkton.. he is dead now

Yeah, but you save it up at sea and if you're nice to the stokers they can store it in fan trunkings for when you get alongside.

They may have got this wrong, I remember 4 cans. No substitute for the grog ration!

@@canopus101In the RCN around this era we got 2 cans per day but half the young fellows never drank so we got their share. There was never any shortage. We were still getting the tot in 68 when I was in.

Until 1997 Commodore was an appointment not a rank

EuskaltelEuskadi cooking23 a substantive rank to be exact. The next deployment thats mentioned in this episode was actually his last on Ark - he Changed Command At Sea off the coast of Scotland on her way to a working up and exercise in Norway
