An impressive transceiver made in Denmark. Mayday messages recorded during the Sydney Hobart yacht race in 1993 when a big storm hit.

Thank Dave for Showing us the Sailing HF built like a Battle Ship and just as Heavy and I like the Codan from 1993 like chalk and cheese and Codan is made in Good old Australia Ian VK2IJ.

I operated this kind of marine telephone for 20 yrs ago. It is amazing and they are the one can help while you are in emergency situation on the sea. Appreciated for your sharing.

what a beautiful piece of equipment.... very analog....very mechanical....very classic.

Built like a battleship and much more impressive than talking in to a VHF or phone.

Been there done that on the 2182 and 4125 kHz calling freqs....in another time!!!! :( Had this type of gear on the Byford Dolphin - Norwegian rig. Though not as vintage as this one....nice! Where did you find it!! ? Gear was so much nicer back then...not plastic fantastic!! MB beacon ...Melbourne NDB??
@vk3ase2 жыл бұрын
MB is Moorabbin Airport about 20Km S.E of the Melbourne city. The Major airports no longer have NDB's but Moorabbin is for smaller aircraft and training so have retained it as NDB use is still on the syllabus. A lot were closed down in 2016 but still many private airfields still have them. Look for "Long Wave Night'' on this channel recorded the night before many NBD's clossed. Picked this up from a Ham fest, often interesting older stuff comes up.

@@vk3ase I should have realised…. Did restricted private pilots license in the 90s but out of Bankstown. I remember flying a Cessna 152 with early version of GPS…. Could see the writing was on the wall for NDB. My flight instructor thought my reading of idents sans morse chart was impressive he he he 4 WPM…Thanks for sharing love the shack!!!

Well, you are comparing two different generations of electronics. The T124 are from 1974 and the Codan from 1983. SP's equipment from the 1980's was also solid state.
@vk3ase3 жыл бұрын
Not saying there is anything wrong with the T124 and they were built for different markets. Codan had the 6924 released in 1969 and was a 10 channel 25 watt ssb portable transceiver with built in tuner. These were followed by 50 and 100 watt units soon after. AWA had the Forest Phone a 15 watt AM small portable solid state unit from about mid 60's. These sets were mainly used for inland service but there were many marine versions of Codans although not so photogenic as the equipment from Denmark.
