I've enjoyed this series on your Sailor collection. Thank you. I have far fewer Sailors than other brands such as Pilot, and have only quite recently gone to the higher price tag models (in descending order: one 1911 Standard, one PGS metallic blue which arrived yesterday and is about to be inked, some Shikiori/ProColour 500s, some Compass/Juniors {which seem to go by various names} and a couple of High Ace Neos). It's been particularly interesting to see not only within-brand comparisons but also cross-brand with the likes of your Custom 74. Our nib tastes aren't exactly the same (I'm all about big wet mediums and broads as a rule) but it appears we may otherwise make similar choices on the models themselves.

Great comparison. I must say the Sailor 1911, Ivory with gold trims is a really beautiful writing instrument.

I have a Sailor Pro Gear King of Pens, with a medium nib and a Pro Gear Standard also with a medium nib, I love both pens, the ink converters are more on the small side, but they are actually okay with EF, F, or M nibs, with B they are just too small. The pens are excellent writers, I am very happy with their performance.

So far my favorite nib size from Sailor is the medium, but I've never tried one of their broad nibs. My sister just got a 1911 standard with a broad nib and I'm looking forward to trying it.

I would concur with your assertion, Cathy, Japanese fountain pens function far better with wet inks. I have the ProGear Slim, & two '1911's'- both large versions - one with a MF, the other, a straight M. Personally, I wouldn't go any narrower than a F with Asian nibs - they behave as a needlepoint - & that's entirely too thin a line for my tastes. Nice colour comparison between the two - one, almost blanched white, the other, a rich, creamy ivory; tho' again, I'd have both in a silvered Rhodium trim. Great writing instruments, both. Thank you for the comparitive :)

Both these are the domestic Japanese versions? As you may remember I just ordered the standard in ivory from Japan on Amazon. Thanks for showing them both because it make me love the ivory even more. The white is too cold and harsh.

You just put into words how I feel about them.

Thanks for this video. My first Sailor (a medium nib) is on its way to me, and I had been looking for nib comparisons before I bought it. I feel even better about my choice after watching this video.

I'm glad I could help. I usually prefer fine nibs, but with Sailor and Platinum gold nibs I prefer the medium. They perform well with a wider range of inks and paper.

Sailor by the way make several lines of converter inks, not just one.

@@gadgetstop321Update: I received the music nib and it just didn’t preform the way I liked so I sent it back and got a fine nib off of Amazon and I am in love! I now have two more coming from eBay the Shikiori Amaoto Winter Rain and Spring Rain! So excited! Thanks for this video!

Just wondering, but if you got the same sized nib for both (say a fine), would the write exactly the same?
@gadgetstop3215 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are the same pen with different shaped ends.
