As usual an interesting look back at the people who helped secure our country's future. I love the camaraderie with men putting their arms around each other with never a thought about this being thought of today as overly friendly or gay. It's just showing that they care about each other and I think that was a factor in why we succeeded in our mission of securing the future of our country and the world. I wish that our terribly divided nation could get back to the time when we were "One Nation, Indivisible...."

Thank you for this comment, it's one of the reasons I create these slideshows. I want to remind men today what life was like before behavioral constraints were imposed on them and what freedom looks like: the ability to express emotion, affection, friendship, camaraderie, and the gamut of emotions and experiences that make us authentically human. And I think you're absolutely right: cohesiveness was a winning recipe for victory over militarism, imperialism, and authoritarianism. ✌️✌️🇺🇸

The guy on the left at 0:59 definitely is the best-looking of the three!

When we were informed in Navy boot camp that our dress blue uniform was suited for formal occasions, I was a bit puzzled as to how formal it could be for one to display a few square inches of white undershirt at the sternum.

I often get such comments. Other people in the world find it amazing to see how happy American military men appear in photos from the 1940s. I attribute this to a functional, healthy environment for men at the time. They were provided a plethora of resources and support systems in the social landscape. Quite different from today! ✌️🇺🇸

I wonder how some of the guys got their hats to stay on , so far back on their heads.

People on the channel ask this question a lot. Probably some Navy men will give you a better answer than I can. But generally I have heard that the dixie cups are designed to stay firmly on by means of a snug fit, although they certainly look precariously perched in photos.
