I am currently anchored in 85' and looking at Little Fisherman's. It's been blowing hard all day with gust to 20. Being that I am solo I'll only move in to shallower water if the winds die. Even then setting a stern anchor solo would be a new trick for me. I watched this video again to see your approach, nice job. Are either one of you around to take the helm for me whilst I set the stern anchor😲

We just anchored there three days ago, it blows constantly in that anchorage and doing bow/stern with two people was incredibly difficult, I am like you, I would not try it alone that’s for sure

Great anchoring. I just did my solar, AIS and autohelm in a recent refit. Next will be Radar, wing gen, mizzenstays’l and asymmetric spinnaker. Finally MAYBE a water maker. 35’ ketch in the Caribbean. I’d buddy boat with you guys anytime.

Anchoring ! fun for young and old. You guys did a great job, seen some great husband and wife shouting matches over anchoring, but you got it done without a cross word. Well done !

Nice job anchoring. I've only anchored once at TH. Similar wind and it was super crowded so I dropped hook in 85+ feet near Harbor Reef. Sucked.

Good Nz morning people. It's hard to tell from the video, but could it be chalk. As in cliffs of Dover over in Uk.? I'm NOT a geologist, but offering a suggestion. Classy job with anchoring by the way. Just enjoy totally your channel. A bit of calm in these crazy times. Thank you. Take care and stay safe.

Hi there, I stumbled upon this video and wondered how it "works" on entering an anchorage. Do you know or see where all the anchors are, and chains of other boats ? Because I can imagine every boat has his own "scope" out, and it is a huge guessing game where to lower the hook.. Thanks for the answer, happy sails and stay safe :) PS love the doggo :) Greets from Holland, Gijs

if the anchorage is like the one in this video and everyone has a bow and stern anchor out then the scope doesn't really matter much because no one will be swinging when the tides and winds shift, so in this anchorage you would just want to make sure your bow anchor was over their stern anchor if you were behind them or make sure not to place your stern anchor cross their bow anchor if possible if you were in front of them. We were right in the middle of 4 boats so no ones rodes were in the area we anchored in. I have a video about anchoring and I talk about not knowing what other people have out with scope when everyone is on a single hook, you can see that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/baOYdZxnp7x1rKM

@@SailorJames thanks, indeed with 2 anchors out, you stay in position and will not swing... Wil look into that video, Thanks again❤

I've anchored here dozens of times. There are 700 permanent mooring in Isthmus Cove, all of which will fill on a summer weekend, leaving most of the overflow to the east end of the mooring field at Little Fisherman's. The prevailing NW wind almost always funnels though the isthmus fan so that it's generally coming abeam from the west. The danger (and common occurrence) is how boats can be blown pretty far east of the line between their anchors so an incoming boat anchoring to their windward, west of them, may end up actually setting their anchor east of the first boat's, crossing their rodes. It's worse if a boat has more scope and if the wind is blowing harder. The other danger of course is just inexperienced skippers who have no idea how to do any of it. I can hardly remember a weekend when somebody didn't drag their anchor causing a late night ruckus. When it's as empty as it was in this video, I just come up to my bow anchor position put it down and then back away under power to first set it and then as far to windward as there is room, letting out my bow rode to the sum of what I want for both my bow and stern, the drift over the correct spot for my stern, let it go and then center myself. When its really crowded (I've seen 20 boats int there, the 4th if July is insane) you pretty much have to set the stern with a dink. Leaving can often involve resolving a half a dozen crossed rodes. It's always worked best if some skipper steps up to be an 'anchor marshall' (usually and unfairly to the anger and annoyance of other skippers) who welcomes the incoming boats in a dink, explaining where everyone's anchors already are, and helping them find the best spot. This person will then also be a godsend as folks are leaving to help get the mat that can end up woven on the bottom untangled.

Another good one! Does everyone use two anchors there?
@SailorJames4 жыл бұрын
Yes to anchor close in you need two anchors but some people anchor on a single hook further out in 60ft depth
