You are a good instructor, I would like your thoughts or analysis on using the pole star to closely estimate ones longitude when sailing as follows ...... This applies to the northern hemisphere only. ...you are at sea during the night and you note that a "navigational" star is about to transit over the top of the Pole star , with your sextant you sight the " navigational star" and bring it down just next to the Pole star and watch them both closely over the next few minutes ( a horizon can't be seen ), when the navigational star blends into the north star you NOTE THE EXACT TIME, and your longitude will be near the same as the Sha of the Navigational star... How would you solve for corrections to get better accuracy from this Sha / Longitude estimate ? Thank You
