Breathtaking performance,one of the best Javert´s, very convincing in voice and acting, he´s really the old police officier who prays to God and begs for help. His huge operatic voice gleams through the darkness of the scene. Perfection!

He is unbelieveable versatile singer. He has a dark timbre,a rich and powerful voice and extraordinary notes in high and low range.He sings opera, jazz, musical and pop.He could be a brilliant Rigoletto or Scarpia aswell as a Javert or Valjean. His first solo album was a pleasure to listen. For me, he is on the same level as Anthony Warlow and that is very rare.

Good Ol Normal Lewis,, the John Davidson of the 21st century. Collect yo paper cuz. You're that white line down the middle of the road. I like the costumes though and the lights. New York is on a totally diffeRENT rating system that the rest of the world. Where do I go to audition to direct this relic. Brian Stokes Mitchell peed on this aria at the Hollywood Bowl. Personally I think that Normal Lewis would have been a very good Jean Valjean. Seriously!! That would have been truly bold of Bway.
@mulletproof60911 жыл бұрын
Philip Quast isn't a professional singer. He has no vocal training or musical theatre training. He trained as a theatre actor, like Ian McKellan and Judi Dench. He just happens to have a naturally wonderful singing voice, so he does musical theatre along with the Shakespearian stuff. I agree with you so much on Crowe; while not my favourite Javert, he had a more pleasant voice than most of the other film actors, yet he gets the most hate for it?!?
@whistlingninja1113 жыл бұрын
I think Lewis sounded better in the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Concert, but if he's really going to be Javert in the movie of the musical, I really hope the hairdressers use this Broadway look. His haircut for the concert was so jarringly twenty-first century that I had trouble believing in the character.
@agumperz11 жыл бұрын
Russell gets props for trying, but there is no comparison between his singing and Norm -- compare the tone. Norm is how it is supposed to sound. Unfortunately Russell comes off as an amateur by comparison. Thats not a slam on Russell -- he *is* an amateur -- and, frankly, almost no one can sing that as well as Norm.

@AnswerMan6911 жыл бұрын
Crowe's voice wasn't close to powerful enough for the role. Didn't hate him, but he was not right for the role. First and foremost, this version of Les Miserables is a MUSICAL, and needs to have very musically talented people in the lead roles. Jackman was weak, Crowe was worse, and Amanda Seyfried was the worst of all. Samantha Barks and Eddie Redmayne were amazing. Samantha stole the show with On My Own, easily one of the musical performances in recent history of movie musicals.
@jamesswift4675 жыл бұрын
AnswerMan69 I didn't think Jackman was weak I thought he performed well, I have seen worse Causettes on stage compared to Amanda Seyfried but Crowe was downright awful

I've heard people mention Quast isn't a classically trained singer, but surely he must have had some sort of vocal training or else he'd never attend rehearsals? No one is born perfect at anything, no matter how gifted they are. Yes, the Crowe hate band wagon is odd... from the same people who complained the film was "sung through" (yes like the stage musical itself, duh!) or that the singers weren't Broadway standard (if you're that much of a music snob, you shouldn't be going to the movies!)

@watsie551 people like u really need to stop comparing other javerts to philip quast, each and every one of them has a different style of doing things. Earl Carpenter has a certain way he interprets the role, and so does Norm Lewis, by the like of things .

Norm Lewis = Phillip Quast > Bubonic Plague > Russell Crowe.
@603xxg11 жыл бұрын
The three best Javerts are Crowe, Quast, and Lewis. People think Crowe can't sing, but that's incorrect! His voice was best suited for the character Javert. His "weak" voice made this song seem more believable when he sang it because it is about a man who slipped through the grasp of a dedicated inspector. I think Crowe probably was the best Javert, but Lewis and Quast are not far behind at all!

Crowe CAN'T sing. The only reason he sounds passable in the movie is the fact that he sings in a very muted fashion. Any stage Javert has to fill the theatre with his voice, Crowe has a cinema sound system doing that for him. Had he attempted to project his voice the way an actual musical performer has to, it would have likely been a disaster. You need to realize the differences of the media.

i HATE Norm Lewis in this part. He has a good voice but I feel like Javert has to be played by someone with a classically trained voice. He's like a tenor here... and there is NOTHING intimidating about a tenor.. HORRIBLE casting.
