Saint Anysia the Virgin Martyr of Thessaloniki

My Mom and I were baptized in January and she and I are on a huge trip in Europe for 2 weeks and on our trip we stopped in Thessaloniki to experience the culture and the Orthodox Churches. We had the chance to attend Divine Liturgy on The Ascension of the Cross and we were pretty blown hearing the Greek singing and seeing the zeal of love from the local people. When we went to venerate her relics my Mom broke down and couldn’t explain why she was mourning for a St she didn’t know and that a feeling came over her that she couldn’t explain. Now knowing her story we understand the strength she had. Love from America to the brave Martyrs of our faith ❤️😭

I was just on vacation in Greece and was in Thessaloniki a week ago but couldn't attend a Divine Liturgy due to the tour schedule. I did however go to St. Dimitrius church and it was a beautiful and holy place. Glad to hear you got to attend a service out there, what a blessing.

But not just what is happening today; look at the past. The Pope had armies and territories. He collected taxes like a secular ruler. No, Christ intended for the apostles to work together in councils as they do in the Book of Acts and how the church functioned for centuries after that and as it does today. The Pope's claim to power goes against the spirit of Christ and his apostles. Even Catholic scholars recognize that the papacy is an innovation. But the average catholic learns what they are told in Sunday school and by the official catholic catechism, which does not teach the truth of how the Church functioned from the beginning.
