So basically, the Saint is stuck in the world, constantly looping and unable to ascend, because he wanted to help everyone else ascend. Everyone, even the Iterators, get to have their happy ending except for him, and he's probably already accepted that.

Yeah, you can't fully ascend til you get rid of all your Earthly attachments...but Saint can't leave anyone behind, wants to save everyone. He's too attached to the world, but not for his own sake-for the empathy he feels for other living beings. That's his chain.

@@SecondTheScoundrel Yes, artificer is stuck in a loop. She can't escape. Depending on your ending she doesn't even want to. To ascend you need to let go of, in order... Violence. It traps you in a vicious cycle of endless reprisal and counter reprisal. The more you hurt the more you want to hurt them which makes them want to hurt you back. Lust. Not always romantic, but a strong desire for any specific thing. So strong you're not able to go on without it. Saint actually starts their run on this Karma level because they have an overwhelmingly sympathetic nature to help others. Community. Attachment to the material world, your family, and society as a whole. A desire to be seen, heard, and appreciated by others. Gluttony. The love of self and the satisfying of our own desires, potentially taken to unhealthy extremes. Self. The last thing to let go of it simply ones own entire existence. Even the act of wanting to ascend, is itself, an attachment that can prevent fully accomplishing it. The final karma symbol, the X, represents the act of "crossing oneself out" as a final act.

Saint has to have the saddest, yet most likely self-inflicted, outcome of any of the characters. While Pebbles is a close second, Saint manages to just have an interlinked message of hopelessness with it. And the climax of swimming through the white void with Pulse playing really makes it feel like Saint is never gonna have a true happy ending for itself. Out of all the theories, Saint being a Bodhisattva really makes him feel like a much more interesting character and is definitely simultaneously the saddest and most wholesome thing. But hey, at least Monk finally got a good ending!

I think the echoes we meet are probably the saddest as it seems they will never ascend or be destroyed. They are quite literally infinite. On the other hand the saints work will eventually end, and maybe they will ascend once there truly is nothing keeping them behind.

When i entered rubicon for the first time (i was only a little bit spoiled), i thought i would get a large place where i would walk around confused and find out some kind of plot, some lore for saint and the world of rain world itself. But all i got is the same platforming and survival amongst the most annoying and powerful of creatures, except in gold. Then i finally found the way out, went up and finished the campaign and was disappointed. It was quite short and i didnt get some info and atmosphere i thought i will get. But a few minutes later as i was sitting there thinking about the ending i realised it was actually pretty much perfect for rain world. You never really get lore from the world itself if you arent trying to find any. It was confusing, a bit hard and very lonely, just like the rest of the game for other campaigns. But it was enough. Its not too different to feel weird and wrong. So in conclusion i guess i was watching and reading too much lore videos and comments and made myself expect something too great and stereotypical. But it turned out to be just perfect

I don't think slugcats will be the next civilization, it will most likely be the scavengers or, by chance, the orange lizards, as these 2 are literally everywhere in saint's campaign and are the most social

No. Saint is stuck repeating their journey in an endless cycle- it all comes full circle. Very heavily summarized version of the theory explaining this: The void sea gives people what they most desire, and Saint wants to help other people ascend... but that is impossible, so the normal process of becoming an echo breaks or is circumvented, and it instead results in Saint being put back on their journey over and over and over again. Each time, Saint still chooses to return, when he bops the void worm with the ascension ability.

Heres an idea: - Saint tries to ascend with full karma. - Void worm notices how saint has a special ability to ascend others. - Void worm somehow controls saint into using that ability on itself with the desire to ascend - Somehow, this causes saint to lose karma mid-ascension - Because now Saint doesnt have :glyphcross: while its in ascension, it becomes an echo. This is shown after the credits. - Saint now is forever an echo, and every time saint tries to ascend again, another void worm does the same thing no matter what Saint does (saint still is still shown as an echo even after restarting campaign)

Some believe that saint itself is aware of it being controlled in some way, and doesn’t wish to ascend, rather return to its earthly need to ascend others. This is why you don’t need to ascend the worm, and it does it itself. It’s rejecting the worm’s influence to return and be the passage for other beings to leave the cycle.

This is wrong of course, which leads to them just reliving their same memories over and over, their echo still trapped in that one spot, while their mind never stops moving

@@RandomMink i've seen lots of interpretations of the saint ending and this makes the most sense to me tbh, or the one i like the most at least. People say saint ascended while all the other slugcats didn't, which is such a sucky retcon. I think it's the opposite, saint wants to ascend badly but something is holding them back (i have my own theories on this) but by playing god and thinking they have the power to truly ascend anyway, they fail and become an echo

echos and 5p are the only things in the game that gives you higher karma without them you cant just go into the void as for void and void leviathans nature that i dont understand unless the void leviathan is just a single entity that exist in multiple spaces at once in the void and thats why there so many of them there and i still dont understand how rain world cycles work like we all know you fail you start from last hideout to try and have better outcome if every living creature has that ability then no one would make a mistake or eventually reach the void on their own but what about old age where you cant continue anymore its like a dead end loop paradox if the void is a trap and it just makes your deepest desires then its a prison that shows you illusions but if a lifeless planet cant sustain life its just as bad or even worse there just more questions then answers if were lucky we would get more content

My interpretation is that he realizes that escaping the cycle is pointless, he sees the beauty of the cycle of death and rebirth, how the world as it is with all the pain and suffering is still meaningful and worth existing in, why would he want to "escape" from it? that's why he rebels against the gold sea.
