It's a crafty Christmas week here at our house. The kids make pictures for two local coloring contests, graham cracker "gingerbread" houses with some friends and Justus teaches us all how to make slime. We also color the Christmas ornaments sent by one of our KZbin friends, cut out gift tags and snowflakes with the Cricut, make grape jelly to give away and order some replacement Christmas ornaments. Solomon and Sophia go to see "The Star" with Grandma Kitty and we read a story about Saint Nicholas and put out shoes to receive chocolate coins.

Justus *really* knows his slime! The gingerbread houses were awesome; it was nice to spend time with your friends. It's a beautiful thing how you deliberately let things happen and they turn out so well. I would have been a basket case with 7 kids making slime and all those ingredients, but the way you do it the gifts turned out great and they all had fun. Merry Christmas!

In Poland we actually have st Nicolas Day. On 6th of December children wake up to open their gifts (sweets and small toys, like Christmas stocking gifts). Before coca cola got popular our st Nicolas was wearing more like bishop style outfit. And on Christmas the presents are brought by angels, and we actually celebrate the most the Christmas eve so kids open the presents after the supper. And the supper starts after you can see the first star on the sky

We celebrate good ole Saint Nicholas on december 5th in my country. Christmas is not really big over here. He comes to our country in november and goes back to spain in december 6th. On the 5th children are surprised with a bag of gifts on the doorstep from St Nick and his helpers! And during all the weeks he is here you can put your shoes by the fireplace (or window/door if you don't have any) and if you have been a good child you will get some presents in your shoes before december 5th. Love how different countries celebrate the same person!

Are you Dutch? I'm assuming you are. My father was Dutch and the December 5 St. Nick tradition was big for us because it obviously was for him. It's a fairly big deal where I live simply because my area of Wisconsin has such a large Dutch community and heritage. Anyway, I'm passing it on to my children as well and they know that December 5 means a full stocking! :-) Merry Christmas! Gelukkige sinterklaasdag!

Absolutely off subject, but our Anniversaries are the same day!! July 24th!!! I really want to say that I LOVE your channel!! I think that you are one of a very few moms that are real!! When I watch some other channels, I can tell that when the camera is off mom isn't the same as when its on. I love that you tell it like it is!! When you have a houseful, things aren't always perfect! Kids get dirty, houses get messy, and kids get bumps and bruises!! And you have your beliefs and you don't apologize for them! So refreshing to see a "REAL" family!!! I love that my grandkids can watch with me and no one is cussing every other word! Thank you! Have a very Merry Christmas and a safe, prosperous New Year!! Oh, and congratulations on the new baby girl!! Any names yet??

Hi andrea, i have a question..... Here in austria we celebrate st.nicolas(nikolaus) on the 6th of december and on the 24th of dec we celebrate "christkind"( means christchild) which is the birth of jesus! Unfortunatly(in my opinion, hope this is not offensive) we also get this santa claus more and more every year and some children honestly don't know the meaning of the celebration anymore! Since i saw you reading st.nicolas stories.....how is it in you household?! I must admit i am not religious in the church sense(roman katholic) but i still value christian believes and try my best! Actually i value all believes that teach kindness, helpfullness and tolerance! I hope this made sense, it's kinda hard to write about stuff that moves you in a diffrent language! Andrea i admire your creativity and patience! I wish i could learn more since i am having a hard time with son who is 18! Or let me say, he's a nice young man, having a hard time with himself! Not really in the christmas spirit this year! Sry, this was so long! You are such a nice, thoughtful person! Best wishes!!!!

Asher's coloring at the end was so funny. Justus did a good job teaching everyone how to make slime. He looked so grown-up in that part. We have never made it, so maybe we will give it a try! Solomon looked so old in the close-up of him coloring in the beginning, I thought he was Justus! That was the first time I thought they looked alike. And, SPOILER ALERT, Solomon told us what happens at the end of The Star! ;) j/k

So funny some of the similarities between our families! 😊 We have that same book about St. Nicholas. Instead of leaving them in their shoes, I just have one mini stocking that I put all of the chocolate “gold” coins into and they get to find it and everyone gets a few. I also noticed your fruit basket Int he table-we use the same ones for our fruit also, lol! The Better Homes and Gardens bread baskets from Walmart!

Those are the ones! I bought them for packets of oatmeal, popcorn and hot cocoa to sit on the top of the microwave, but I commandeered that one for fruit. Just this week I put a different tray on the table so I could have the basket back on the microwave again.

All the kiddos did great on their coloring but I must say I am very impressed with Solly's page! I think he and Justus were tired by the time the second coloring contest page came around. lol LOL @ Asher's gingerbread jail! I bet he felt like that's right where he was. Made me laugh so hard. Loved all that creativity! Ha! Was just thinking you can link this video when the 1 millionth person asks if your children have any friends outside of the family. Eden's owl is gorgeous. All these fun activities make me wish my health was better so I could do some of these with my grand niece and nephew who live in my town. Next year, I believe I will be well on my way to being healthy once again so plan to spoil them with all this fun! oooo I want a cricut (is that what it's called?) lol ! For what, I'm not sure but I want one! lol

It is so nice to watch this, I am learning a lot about American traditions! Why don't you you use your usual five favorites also for the christmas tree? No to throw the other stuff out, but to just put the kids' favorites on the tree? I would guess that their taste changes, too.

Hey Andrea, I'm not sure if I should send you a private message, but can you give me advice about switching to ACE? We just started today switching a couple kids to some PACEs, and we are really enjoying it so far! My main reason for switching is to ACE is because I am running myself ragged trying to teach every subject to 4 kids. But transitioning to a new curriculum is also kind of overwhelming, especially because my kids are all close in age, and all learning how to read at various stages. Their ages are 4, 5, 6, 8. Do you have any advice for having multiple kids who are learning to read, and none of them independent yet? Thank you!! ~Lindsay Reid
