Wonderful aria, well performed by Phillipe Roullion. This aria was famous among baritones in Saint-Saens time.

Splendid recording! If you want to have an idea of Jean Lassalle's singing (he was the first Henry VIII) at his best, just listen to this. Philippe Rouillon has the perfect dramatic baritone voice, with bass resonances, which is very close to that which we can hear in Lassalle's rare recordings. A great French singer to enjoy!
