The marvelous quartet that finishes the opera is one of the most succesful pages written by Saint-saens for the theater. Notice the key changes in the Romanza and the mirror effect of the aria of the act one, "Qui donc commande ..." This opera deserved being more staged all over the world....

What a scene! It is the fabulous end of a superb Opera. The acting in this was very good, as well as the casting. Yes, this should be done way more often. It has recently become one of my favorite Operas! Henry is a monster, and all the characters are so well portrayed. The music is glorious, and the construction of it so well done.

This is a magnificent opera; I do not understand why it has not been performed more often. I have this dvd and the entire work is powerfully written, and of course the musical structure and melodic lines are superb. Gorgeous orchestration too! thank you for posting this!
