I think it's referencing this event from the Bible when the Prophet Elisha (Elijah's friend) was mocked. It is also a unlawful to work on the sabbath, but sometimes for the sake of righteousness there are higher purposes than the law. St. Xenia is not the only female saint who took on masculine roles at times for the cause of Christ.
