Carlton simply cannot match anywhere near that. I am a HUGE De Koning fan, I think he's going to be an AA ruck and near on champion of the game if he can stay healthy. But we can't do that. If we have to lose him, it sucks... But you can't be backed into a corner. Successful clubs don't pay rucks that much, or really anyone that portion of the pie. Offer him $900k-1m (if we can) and let the cards fall when they may.

Second year blues is usually associated with a player who has to adjust to the opposition being tactically better prepared to nullify the impact a young player has on the game after a strong first year. I thought that was already evident in the 2nd half of last season after Harley made everyone sit up and notice him in the first half of last season, so it will be interesting how he combats that this season.

You will find his quieter second half to the year was just fatigue due to a limited preseason and his aggressive game style, they have a stronger midfield this year so his work load would able to be managed and less reliant on him playing long minutes as an inside mid.

Not for this price. Max Gawn is a unicorn in modern football as a flag winning ruck. Big O, Stanley, Lycett, Cameron... Maybe you could argue for Nank & Ben McEvoy as top shelf rucks to win flags but they were both traded in, not bought, showing that there are ways to get these players for 'unders'. Would be insane to pay a ruck this kind of money.
