If it weren’t for its outlandish action, disregard for realism, and even its irreverent embrace of profanity, Saints Row might never have set itself apart as a stand-out open world franchise. So when the Saints Row reboot revealed a more grounded tone, Saints Row fans were understandably disappointed. But tone is one thing. What about gameplay? Will there still be a ton of crazy stuff to do? Or is this shaping up to be a bland GTA clone? To answer that question, I examined tons of articles, interviews and reports and I’ve summed up everything I learned in this video. Before I get into it, two disclaimers, one, I do stay away from story details and two, a very few clips in this video might have a slightly lower resolution. That’s because I found them on Volition’s official Twitter feed, and they weren’t always of the highest quality. but if you’re curious what it might be like to build a whole new criminal empire, then I hope you’ll join me as I look at 19 intriguing gameplay details about Saints Row.
The map might be bigger than you think
First off, one small disclaimer. There may be a few clips in this video with a slightly lower resolution. That’s just because I found some of these clips posted to Volition’s official Twitter feed, and they weren’t always of the highest quality. Ok, on to the topic at hand, Volition has mentioned in multiple interviews that Santo Ileso is the largest map ever in a Saints Row game. That said, they have said it’s by no stretch the biggest open-world map ever created so don’t expect something overwhelming like you might find in Assassin's Creed Valhalla or The Witcher 3. But here’s one really strange thing about the previews for Saints Row When it comes to how many districts you’ll explore across the city of Santo Ileso, different previews have cited different numbers. Some claim there will be 9 districts, and to be fair, that is how many are seen in this image of the Santo Ilesso map, taken from one of Volition’s official trailers. But then, the Game Informer cover story says there are 11 districts. But here’s the kicker.

I think this is the problem. They've split their fanbase so far down the middle that we’re talking about completely different games between the first two and the last two. It also had great weapon customization too. Plus the soundtrack was pretty darn good as well! Can't say any of that for SR3.

Well, you will be able to customize your 1 protagonist character. All the other members of your gang shown in trailers and previews are likely to be set NPCs who you will meet during campaign, see in cutscenes etc. So more you deviate in your character customization from the default character, more out of place your character will seem when together with their gang mates.

I like that Volition seems to have meshed the aesthetics of 2, 3, and Agents of Mayhem to create an almost comic book style mashup. The cars are very stylized and bulky like AoM, the guns seem to have the hefty sci-fi look of the stag and decker weapons from 3, and the map seems to finally be the SR2 successor we've been waiting for.

I’m excited to see how well the world building, response, and customization goes for a Saints Row title. SR3 was unique with it’s environment, from leveling the enemies HQ or taking it, an entire district of zombies, taking over territories completely, and deciding between Shaundi or the Daedalus ending. It truly made for a variety of styles in gameplay; rather as a gangster, criminal mastermind, vigilante, crime lord, superhero, etc. Saints Row’s customizable environment always made for hours of replay. I always modeled the boss after Persephone Brimstone, and it actually made a pretty unique storyline to see a foreign femme fatale lead a crew in missions in an ensemble of dresses and catsuits. There isn’t another game besides GTA Online that supports diverse styles of gameplay in one game with an evolving or responsive world.

No. Simply just to correct this remark it's because of the more stylized approach as well as the unfavorable backstory being used when it was first revealed. The "we're broke college students so we started a gang" was too simply put on top of the characters' initial design was too hard to take serious. Older hardcore fans of the original games wanted the more serious approach which is why most didn't support saints row 4 and agents of mayhem. We wanted a more saints row 1&2 style of game

Because it looks like M rated fortnite game, the shooting mechanics are 100% identical to fortnite, just with blood splashes ... The second reason is the bullet sponge enemies, bullet sponge enemies only make sense in games like gears of war, and because of the weapons you get in gears, it makes sense to make enemies bullet sponges... 3rd: the fuckin health bars, the HUD is a health bar clusterfuck... Everything seems to have health bars, idk who thought putting health bars in shooters was a good idea, because its complete bullshit, it just pulls you out of the immersion. Number 4: for a game like saints rows that is known for being compared to GTA, creating a character instead of having a original main protagonist given by the developers is bullshit, they should give us a dedicated protagonist, like Arthur Morgan or Franklin, CJ etc... And lastly, which is the biggest reason of all, the fuckin engine that this game runs on, i saw allot of disgusting pop ins in the video, they ruin the feel of the gMe, and the whole cartoon look, i think if they use a less cartoony engine, it would benefit them much to create a realistic believable world.. because this saintsrow game looks exactly like the previous games , just on steroids

3 things I want to know 1 / can we recruit other gang members other than the ones we was shown 2 / can we customise what our gang members where ? Because some of the clothes they have on in the trailer is a joke 😩🤦🏻‍♂️ And finally ……. 3 / do the other gangs fight back, for example if we take over some turf and put one of our property on it Will they try to take it back, so we as the player have to keep looking over a shoulder on what’s going on Instead of just taking it over and that’s that, never have to worry about it again Through the whole game

I think this is the 1st time that Saints Row is coming out on PC, because before it was an XBOX exclusive and never came out on PC just numbers 2-4 were available on PC, so thank god we are finally getting it on PC after all this time waiting

Speaking as a gigantic fan of the Saint’s Row game series, I have been waiting on pins and needles for this brand new, 2020’s technologically updated flagship! It’s every bit as good as I expected it to be. The co-op is something to look forward to and before I even started the video I said out loud “I really hope the new game has the Insurance Fraud side game available! I’m curious if there’s any type of online play besides the co-op. But then again I think they’re trying to avoid R* massive greed backlash with the online transactions. But I do think an online version as a part of the game would be a massive hit as long as they kept the transactions out of the equation! Hopefully they’ll move towards this and show R* how things should be done! Don’t get me wrong, i’m nearly addicted to GTA online but Take Two’s greed has nearly destroyed it. I’m glad to see Saint’s Row not repeating their mistakes. But I certainly welcome an online mode for them!!! 🤙

GTA Online has basically become a game of where if you got money to buy the different level 'cards' to get ingame money you have it easy and that's not getting how toxic the open servers was getting when i last played it to the point me and my friends was playing private server games, i mean i don't care if the only online gameplay in the new Saint's Row is co-op as long as it'll be fun to play with others lol, though due to SR3 being the game i got as my intro into the SR games i have a somewhat soft spot for the horde or as it was spelt as whored mode it was good to destress with XD and to be honest i'm REALLY hoping that the SR reboot has the replay feature at the very least or a NG+ that let's you keep you money and inventory when you start a new game after completing the main story stuff XD

Thinking about it now this is legit a mob boss type game... Like you start small then build business.... Like have any other game studios thought of it... And also flipping the script of the first game as we learn the carnales were small in stillwater then grew big also having the influence on the Vice Kings route that they have business and have cops on payroll.... Hope this saints will be close to 2 and 1 with gameplay and immersion
