Deathloop Essential Tips
INTRO
Flat out, Deathloop is a blast. However, it is one of the most unconventional AAA games I’ve played, and as such, it can be a little disorienting at first. From the time looping mechanic, to the mission structure, to the upgrade system, and the interconnected levels, there’s a lot to learn and discover. But since I had such a good time in this world, I couldn’t resist sharing my best tips and tricks in hopes that they help you have just as much fun as I did. So if you’re just diving in, here are 14 starting tips to help you get the most out of Deathloop.
Get and upgrade Charlie’s Strelak 50-50 ASAP
Once you get past the first couple of missions in Deathloop, you’re free to go after any one of the five visionaries that possess one of the game’s slabs - those are the items that provide you with your special, supernatural abilities. However, I recommend starting with the lead that will net you the Shift Slab. This will take you to Charlie, who not only has the Shift slab, which allows you to teleport, but he’ll also drop a rare Strelak 50-50 that comes with the extra perk of slowing enemies down once you shoot them. This remained one of my go-to weapons throughout the entire game. Even on stealth runs, if I got caught I could use the Strelak 50-50 to blast my way through just about any encounter. However, one downside is that it does take forever to reload. To remedy this, equip the 50-50 with the Speedloader trinket as soon as you find one. After that, you’ll have one of the best close ranged weapons in the entire game.
Stay Out of The Water
This is for people who are literally just starting out or who haven’t played a single minute of Deathloop. Just don’t go in the water. If you do, you’ll freeze and in Deathloop, that means you die instantly. Even if you find a shallow pool of freezing water inland, wading around will still cause damage. Thankfully, this doesn’t really limit exploration, but it did catch me by surprise in my first or second run through the island of Blackreef.
Play Curious
You can get through Deathloop pretty quickly if you just follow the main leads - leads by the way are the game’s core missions. But if that’s all you do, you’ll be missing out on a ton of extra content and gameplay. This world is packed with secrets to discover. You might find a door that requires a combination to open, or a bread crumb trail that leads to a powerful weapon. In one instance I saw this lit up letter O hanging from a crane. When I first saw it, it was just there. But when I revisited at a different time of the day, I noticed it had some motion detecting lasers pointing through the center. Naturally, I decided to jump through. I half expected to trigger a trap, but instead, jumping through the motion detector triggered a nearby container to open, revealing a powerful upgrade trinket. In another instance, I found a crank that I could pick up, but I had no idea where to use it. Well, a few hours later, I found a locked safe, but to open it I had to attach - you guessed it - a crank. These are just two of dozens and I mean dozens of the discoveries that wait for you on Blackreef, if you’re curious enough to seek them out.
Don’t forget to infuse slabs
This one may seem obvious, but I got burned by this early on. Once you obtain your first slab, you might think, great! One down, four to go. But it’s not quite that simple. Just like with guns and trinkets, you have to infuse slabs with risiduum between districts in order to keep from losing them between entire runs. Basically, when you leave a district, you’ll have the opportunity to infuse your slabs. This is important because if you obtain a slab, then run out of your reprise ability - those are your extra lives - and get killed all before infusing the slab, well that run is over and you’ll lose that slab.

Just FYI, everyone, you can use double jump to literally break a fall from any height. Keep in mind that you need to make the first jump though. Don't try to walk off a ledge and press the jump button hoping to use this trick. Jump once from the ledge to start the fall, then as you are close enough to the ground, jump again to break the fall. Combine this with Shift and you can traverse levels at incredible speed.

Early game (before you have INFUSION) the hackable turrets are very handy.You can carry and deploy them anywhere.Just deploy the turret, lure in the enemies (by making noise or shooting at them) and let the turret do the work whilst you hide behind something.It helped me a lot in the beginning of the game before I had good weapons and slabs. And for more firepower...just set up multiple turrets.

I love taking one or two turrets and setting up a kill box where I can draw a few baddies into and I either kill them myself or the turrents will get them for me

This game is nothing like I've ever played before and that's an awesome thing. I will admit though, when I first started it, i wasn't feeling the game, even thought it to be boring. There's also alot the game doesn't tell you and there's also alot of overwhelming parts at the start as well. However, I gave it a chance and kept playing and I've come to REALLY like it. I've been playing a good couple of hours and I'm still learning new things about the game as I play and that keeps me hooked. Sure it's fun going straight for the main leads but I like to explore also and exploring is just a whole different aspect of this game that makes it even more enjoyable. I like the sense of secrets in this game, it just really adds to an already odd game that just works. Thanks for the tips, learnt a few new things again lol

I’d say. Make sure u scan every room for voice tape recorders and documents to read. Don’t just do the main story, track the white side missions in each region. Noon is different than afternoon. Every bit of the map has a story or a puzzle. Check each region for each time of day. The deliveries can be found in the delivery machines, and only on one day loop. Definitely infuse before dying. Great game, best I’ve played in since Elden ring 💚💚

My Favorite Slab Combo Is Shift And Nexus, Use Shift To Get To A Vantage Point (Alot Easier If You Use Airborne In Conjunction With Double Jump) And Use Nexus On A Group And Snipe Them, Its Not A Combo That Everyone Will Like, But I Find It Fun

Also, if you are worried about Juliana ruining your game, aether and the exploding nail spiker will do wonders. Stay invisible and tap a headshot on her with the nail gun. The nail should explode blasting her off into a fall. When she is on the ground, blast as many nails as u can into her, or just run up to her to do a one-hit-kill melee attack. You can also use Kinesis slab with an upgrade to suspend her in the air to line up a headshot... Super easy.

In game assists you can turn on 1 shot ememies! Even bosses. They all die in 1 shot. Made the game so fun for me

Perfect Juliana build is with both Havoc and Ether (the first one with slow mana consume and extra damage while damaged and the second with ghost and flicker). Also for guns I would say that a damage building hig accurate smg, smg pistol or machine gun with both bleed and mana leach + hig accurate strelak with slowing bullets and an headshot exploding chirurgic sniper is pretty broken

There is a trinket that let's you hack landmines and laser traps from a distance and make them yours so if an enemy walks through them they blow up.

Great video. I’m looking forward to finally playing some this weekend. One thing I’m still a little unclear on though is, after you infuse a weapon or slab, do you only keep that for the next run, or do you now have it for all future runs? Like do you have to re-infuse a slab or weapon each run?

Once any item is infused, you have it for all future runs, so your arsenal builds and builds the longer you play.

yeah you have it for all future loops. But the say you drop it for another weapon in one district, and go to to another one within the same loop, it won't be there. You'll have to wait until the next morning(or next loop) for it to show back up as an option in your loadout

The Heritage Gun with Crack Shot, Speedloader and Lightning Strike is SUPER OP. Once you pick that up, the game is essentially over. After I got the Heritage Gun, Julianna never killed me again.

Sunk 40 hours into it so far, it's such a blast, I LOVE dishonored but the setting itself was always a tad grim for my taste, tho i do like the story and the lovecraftian elements. And Deathloop is basically a more over the top cheery dishonored so it's made for me basically :P It takes two is still my goty but I can't decide between Deathloop, Psychonauts 2 and Hitman 3 for my no2 of 2021

I disagree about not writing things down. For example the crank and safe mentioned in the video. I've found the safe but not the crank. I wrote down where the safe is so that when I find the crank I'll know where to find the safe again. Some things that game won't track for you and I think this is one of them.

I agree. I found a random code on a board and took a screenshot of it when I noticed it wasn't popping up as a discovery. Turns it was the code for the delivery booths in each district.

Hey google wouldn’t understand me so I’m here now Okay so I don’t know if mine glitched somewhere or not but After like completing the tutorial, and getting the guns like the nail gun and the other personal guns along with colt’s suit. And then I think my game glitched and now they’re all gone, and idk if I should reset colt’s progress or not, now I’ve killed wenjie and I also found the slab that lets you throw people around like rag dolls, is it worth resetting or should I keep going?

Nexus looks fine and in some situations it can be combined with aether but they are very rare. The truth is nexus actually spoils your aether since it consumes energy and there is no any power to combine with it other than shift. And even shift is not something you really NEED, it's just everything else is even more useless combined with aether. So when there are more than 3 enemies you just use shift to get a high ground and then shoot everything in stealth.

One thing that would be interesting to point out is that if you end up sacrificing an item that you have Infused, you WON’T get it back next loop, so, generally speaking, don’t do it!

Being able to only have 2 powers on at same time is dumb decision from developers in my opinion that just reduces fun. Shift is too fun to use to not have it so I feel like I only have choice to choose one power, but then if I get some new power dropped I have to sacrifice this power I like just so that I can infuse the new one... it just reduces fun for no reason... Dishonored was most fun for me because of the power combinations, and developers intentionally removed this aspect that I liked the most from dishonored... wery weird game design decision that I dislike the most about this game
