I seriously don't get all the hate for how wacky Saints Row has gotten. If you want serious stuff, there's GTA, and Saints 2 still exists if that's what you're looking for. Saints Row was so much better then the other gang games. By the time it came out (2006) GTA SA was getting stale. Most people have already beat it. When Saints Row came along, it offered a nice alternative with a great storyline with great realistic gangs. (Vice Kings were fucking awesome). There isn't too many gang games that are up to par with Saints Row 1. And then when Saints Row 2 came out, goddamn. Everything that SA failed to do, SR2 did. My only gripe is how you can see that they were trying to walk away from the gangster theme. I mean, look at the gangs... and then came Saints Row 3... and it totally left the gang theme for purple dildos and computer simulators. Like, what the fuck? GTA at least keeps it's roots, Saints Row is all over the fucking place. And then the horrible steaming pile of turd known as Saints Row IV came out. It completely shook off any original fans of the series that were still left after Saints Row 3, and geared it's shift towards 12 year olds. And then this comes out. A horrible Disney clone that wants to have adult themes and be controversial.

There's a lot of fine games that are similar to GTA on paper but try something different to differentiate themselves from the series. In Sleeping Dogs, we got kung fu fighting. In Watch_Dogs, we got hacking. But in Saints Row, especially after 3, everything goes. It's the kind of game that whenever you question the logic, the answer would be "why not?". And I love it. Sure, video games are so cinematic and artistic and must have symbolism nowadays. But sometimes, I play games just to see demons doing a Disney song routine and Shakespeare being a nightclub DJ and hopefully, one day, get to ride on a Velociraptor.

The story is a big part of why it was and Saints Row 3 and 4 fucked it all up because it made no sense at all and completely forgot its roots and what made Saints Row such a good series. Compare stilwater and steelport and the life its composed of. SR2’s Stilwater have unique districts and Npcs based on the district. For instance, being in the redlight district which is a more rural area, you are going to see far more hobos and pimps compared to Saints Row where Ultor and other rich people live. Steelport not only has none of that but the map itself is a linear shithole that has very little uniqueness or redeeming qualities. People complain How bad Saints Row has gotten not ONLY because of how wacky its gotten but how little detailed its gotten Not taking itself seriously is what destroyed the series and how horrible the story became

This actually comes up in one of the audio logs you can find (at least in the context of someone trying to commit suicide to get out of Hell). Their body breaks apart but then they spend 100 years in horrible pain as the pieces come back together. Other forms of death might not be quite so bad though, as this is indicated to be a punishment from Satan specifically for trying to escape via suicide. ...And of course there is Dex, who you can kill over and over again.

After the reboot trailer I'm just disappointed we don't get a follow up to this with all these characters I love. Especially because Four finally let you romance and sleep with your crew, which I was hoping would come back if they ever did Five. Especially because Kinzie was my girl and this game kind of helped drive that point home for me at least. The two people who go to save Boss were Gat and Kinzie. To me that was his best friend and his girl coming to save him, and now we never get the follow up.

I just need to say a total reboot was the last thing that needed to happen. I don't know the details of the company who produced the reboot compared to produced GOOH, but they had options to continue the plot. It is considered "silly" to fans who wanted the classic gangbanging in a normal earth in SR3, SR4, and GOOH, but they multiple options to spin the dead SR5 into something extremely Indepth and canon to the plot we've grown up playing. Like the kids and young adults who started GTA 3 on their PS2 the fans had the persistence of the same cities and GTA culture throughout the many years, the story we had growing up died Aisha style. It was truly a trap when we heard of the reboot, for we got excited for the next chapter of the Saints and instead got we got the sensation of humiliation to purchase and have hype for garbage.

I don't understand how people can draw a parallel between the old Saints Row games and GTA. Saints Row was *so* much more in terms of its character.
