It is a shame, But completely unsurprising. The woke crusaders are trying to go after every single game/game franchise out there, So at the end of the day the best thing to do is just to stick to the older games in my opinion. Ever since they've been pushing woke messages in video games I've been focusing on older games and I've really been enjoying either revisiting the older games that I grew up with (Half Life, Portal, Team Fortress, Bioshock) or visiting older games that I haven't played but have high praise.

"How did the parent studio go under because of one failed game?" - It didn't. It went under because of a series of poorly managed choices. The talent that used to exist were gone, or have moved beyond their interests in the past. They then wanted to make games they wanted to create, but players didn't want to play. Lack of leadership and so on. What actually killed the studio was that the Saudi investor pulled out last second which lead to the collapse. They had mismanaged the company to the point the investor was the only hope they had.

I remember the Devs saying it gets better after a while trust us. So I thought and hoped that maybe the trailer was a miss direct, maybe after the first mission the camera pulls back and it's Shaundi playing a video game, throwing the controller saying "This sucks" or something equally as witty, but that never happened. I didn't mind the idea of a reboot, I was even prepared for new characters, I just wasn't prepared for these characters, or the story, or the writing.

I was planning to actually watch this one (as opposed to listen to it in the background like I do with most video essays on youtube, haha) but for some reason I find the editing style in this video very jarring. I'm only 4 minutes in but the fact that every 30 seconds there is a sequence where you just show a single word at a time over a moving background while you talk is giving me a huge headache. Really unfortunate because I have some truly amazing and terrible memories playing this series and I was looking forward to seeing some nostalgic footage. 😅

I loved Saints Row 2. It's a game I still like to go back and play every once in a while. I spared myself the torture of playing Saints Row 2022. I would still like to see a new Saints Row game. More so a reboot of the first two games, if that's possible. Just use the same world. Make the cities more robust, allow for more NPC interaction, accessing more buildings, newer vehicles. The game already had a good assortment of weapons.

While those things can sometimes overlap they are not the same thing. Along with that not all media needs to escapist fantasy devoid of political messaging. Loved Saints Row 3. It was so over the top dumb- I loved it. Super dumb, over the top nonsense. I remember Saints Row 4 getting announced and being kinda excited for it, remembering the dumb antics of the 3rd game and being like 'How are they going to beat the gang wars stuff?' Aaaaand.... then they showed aliens and such which wasn't super interesting for me back then. It was also a time where I stopped preordering due to games not being great so I thought I'd wait aaaand I saw Zero Punctuation talking about it... and they mentioned you're actually captured by the aliens and put in like- a virtual world which is why you have super powers and I totally lost all interest instantly as I really don't like that trope. It just feels weirdly pointless- I'm sure you get out the simulation and such but at the time me and my friends just totally lost interest in it, thinking it might be trying too hard to be whacky and went on to play other games (We also had like, little to no money so- had to be picky) Gat out of hell interested me as I like hell themes but- there was something about it that didn't feel like it should be a full game and weirdly didn't pull me in. I think hearing about it being a DLC that turned into a full game turned me off a bit as it was at a time where DLC stuff started to feel weird and greedy- it also felt like it wasn't Saints Row anymore as the fun part of Saints row 3 was building the gang up again, getting unlocks and such. There were plenty of action games with hell themes around that I already played. Then... yeah, the reboot made some sense but it didn't look really interesting. Such a bummer.

The fix could have been easy and still can be done. Make games 3 and 4 a dream where Gat wakes up and realizes his girl is still dead. Have you - the player - trying to keep The Saints together, while also trying to get Gat out of his depression to help with the fight. In the game you play as you - the player - and also Gat in a few depression levels. And all DLC will be Gat's struggle with depression, mental issues, and just being a sociopath.

3 was where the loss of identity started as Lazerzz pointed out. It was about gang warfare but the characters took it seriously and at 3 they stopped taking it as seriously where the MC literally references being unkillable. This said the stakes kinda drop even after watching Gat get stabbed who later comes back in 4. That said 2 people were dying left and right. No-one except Gat and the boss truely thought they were the shit but rightfully so they were both monsters. And even then they still watch carlos and aisha get murdered. Just go watch the brotherhood cutscenes and tell me that any of the other gangs after 2 had that level of depravity. Better yet ill refer you back to LazerzZ's Saints Row Retrospective

I got it free on PS Plus and remenber the game telling me how to get money and one way was drug staches, boxes on People rooftops for some reason, before this I was already pissed with the game and when I went to grab the drugs, literally 3 or 4 houses all close to one another all with the same crates models and just one was collectible. It just broke me, I unistalled it immediatly.

Saint's Row (2006) - Saint's Row: Gat out of Hell are true Saint's Row games, Wacky, Fun, and a Chaotic Sandbox. Even though SR: 4 and Gat out of Hell were the most off the track and made people have doubts for SR in the future. I may not like SR:4 and Gat out of Hell as much as SR (2006) - SR: The Third. I will still play them because in my eyes, they are still True Saint's Row games. Don't get me started on the Saint's Row Reboot, I feel scammed by it since I bought the most expensive pre-order edition. I finished the game in less then a week, and deleted it. Never played it again to experienced the DLC. Honestly the worst game to come out that year. RIP Mike "IdolNinja" Watson We lost one of the best community managers in of all history. A man who genuinely cared about the Saint's Row IP.

There was certainly a lot of potential when the game was announced, it's a shame they went the direction they did. When the fanbase was voicing their opinion about the game on social media I remember Volition responding to them with comments such as "Don't play the game then". Guess they got what they wanted?

Replayed SR1+2 over this last winter. Good times. SR3 wasn't terrible but they started going overboard with the goofiness I think. I really liked the gang warfare aspect of SR2; I wish they did more with it.

I was one of those unfortunate people that got Agents of Mayhem. I agree Saint's Row 4 should have been the last main title. Deep Silver and Volition shot themselves in the foot by not trying something new. Sure, Agents of Mayhem was kind of new, but the game is so weird and nothing close to what we know they can accomplish. I hope everyone is doing well and the game devs that actually cared are able to keep working on other games

Saints Row has never been a lost cause, it was Volition who was a lost cause, it was filled with developers who didn't want to make a proper Saints Row game, who really think that SR 1,2&3 are "products of their time" and that we can't have games like this being made anymore, because those developers have become sensitive little snowflakes who have to virtue signal how "progressive" they are to their far left extremist cult members. As someone that played the first Saints Row either late 06 or early 07 i was very very hooked and fell in love with saints row 1 and the second one just made the series even better but in my opinion and in my eyes there are only 3 saints row games..1,2 & 3 after 3 it got WAY too goofy for me. It really sucks how they ended saints row.. doesn't seem right but it is what it is i guess.

When you spend months telling the fan base that got the game up to that level, that they are not the people is aimed at, or even wanted as fans, then I have no idea how you can pull a shocked pikachu face when it tanks. Playing SR2 on the 360 when it came out in co-op really was the height of the series, 3 was damn fun, 4 was a great super hero game, just not really SR. Like there really was not a great deal they could do, they had painted them selves in to a corner so a reboot was fine but man... not the way to do it. Honestly I really wish they had kept on the patch so playing SR2 on pc was more user friendly so more people could see it.

There definitely were better ways to handle a reboot let alone they even had time travel in SR4 where they could have just backtracked before the earth was destroyed. SR2 was the best but the entirety of 1-4 was fun nonetheless however I still wish they actually gave us a better revenge on Dex which imo was just terrible writing.

Saints Row reboot wasnt terrible. The people who hate it are just obnoxiously loud. The only thing i felt killed the reboot was the bad pacing in the campaign. The characters were fun and had great dynamics, but could've benefitted from a more structured story that focused on the characters interpersonal relationships with each other while being in rival gangs which i thought would've been the premise of the game in the beginning but deviated from that narrative very quickly.

I'm an old grognard. I thought that Saint's Row 2 was where it peaked. You had the action movie main story which could jump to some over the top levels, but the setting was just realistic enough that you had to worry about the cast not making it. And you got all the goofy silly gameplay for the side jobs for all the funny stuff. Saint's Row 3 lost a lot of the charm and good writing ("Hey, let's kill off Johnny Gat offscreen, everybody will love that!") and started doubling down into the absurdity. Which worked for some people, but it felt like we'd jumped the shark in the Second game. Four and everything after just tried to go fully on insanity which, again, worked for some people but there wasn't really stakes anymore. You're fighting an intergalactic race of aliens in reality while living in the matrix and now you're a superhero. Honestly, if they turned around and said "We want to do something like Saint's Row 2" I'd be cautiously optimistic. But let's be honest, after that last game? Nobody would show up to buy.

Started with Saints Row IV, without any prior knowledge of the series, really liked it Went back to SR 2 and 3 to understand who all these characters were, really liked them too. I was one of the few who liked Gat out of Hell Was keeping open mind for new SR, but it was just... wrong in all the ways.
