Genuine question, if we are the temple 1 Cor 3:16, what is the need to have a man made building temple? How is what has been described here (beautiful spiritual encounters) different from what one can get by going into their prayer closet?
@Imtryingtobelikejesus-m1m2 жыл бұрын
I agree that we can be considered a Temple, we can become Holy and a place where the Spirit can dwell. However, when one goes to the Temple, that person makes special covenants (two way promises with Heavenly Father) and these covenants are what help us to learn to become closer too and more like the Savior and God. Heavenly Father then blesses us when we make covenants. For example, If we enter into the covenant of Eternal Marraige, we are blessed with having an Eternal Marraige. Because one prepares Spiritually to enter a Temple, I believe the Spirit can teach one there unlike anywhere else. In a way, I feel like it is learning more of the type of Spiritual things we will learn in Heaven if we desire to do so. I have heard it is like a Spiritual university with further light and knowledge. That being said, I do know one can feel the Spirit and learn and grow outside the Temple through reading the Scriptures and through pondering and prayer. But I really feel like God does not just intend us to read the Bible for eternity. There is more to learn and he is willing to teach us now. Does that make sense?

@@catherinecooper8370 God can choose to pour out his spirit on whoever he pleases but sometimes the influences of the world make it harder for us to feel and be influenced by the Spirit. As one prepares for and enters the Temple, that person can more readily receive instruction for the Spirit. @@catherinecooper8370the purpose of the Temple isn’t just to feel the Spirit or peace, we go there to help those who have passed on by doing proxy ordinance work for them. Baptism is an ordinance we believe must happen in a physical body. When we are baptized for someone who has passed on they have the opportunity to accept or reject the ordinance on the other side of the veil, but we view the chance to be baptized for someone who cannot be as a beautiful act of service. By serving God’s children we are serving Him and it draws us closer to Him and is a form of worship. I know that when I go to the Temple here in Mesa, or any of the other Temples that I’ve attended, I feel a closeness with God and my Savior that also can happen anywhere, but is much easier to feel, and expected to feel, at the Temple. It’s a quiet, sweet place to be where you know all the people inside are there because they love God and want to serve Him. I can feel that same peace in my home, or in the mountains, or standing on a crowded street corner, but the ordinances that happen in the temple cannot be done anywhere else. I hope that answers your question. I get that a lot of people don’t believe the way that we do and that many, if not most evangelical Christians feel some kind of fear or even hatred toward us and our beliefs. To us the temple is a beautiful aspect of our walk with Christ and we consider them sacred. I hope your question was born out of respectful curiosity. That’s the way I took it, which was why I answered. ❤

What reasons do we have to believe the endowment ceremony was practiced by “ancient” cultures? ( 3:39 )
@SeanyeMidWest2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think we have any concrete evidence that the entire endowment session was practiced by ancient cultures. But certainly there are several parts of the endowment that hold parallels to the atonement sacrifices as described in Leviticus chapters 1-7. While the Law of Moses has been fulfilled, Abraham and the other followers of Christ proceeding the law of Moses made sacrifices as a part of their worship of God, even though they were living the higher law. The need for the covenant people to make animal sacrifices ended with the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Although, in the endowment much of the symbolism used pays homage to the actions performed by the people of Israel in their atonement sacrifices. So while there is no concrete evidence for the endowment as a whole being practiced by ancient cultures, the endowment has helped to restore many of the teachings that the people of Israel learned through making their atonement sacrifices.

If being out in nature helps you feel better connected to God that’s great and you should spend time doing that. But the covenants we make with God are an essential part to us building a deeper relationship with God. That is why God referred His relationship with the covenant people as a marriage relationship. When you are married you should love an serve everyone around you, but the love you have with your spouse is a deeper and stronger love. God will bless and love all of His children. But those who enter into a covenant relationship with God will experience a deeper relationship with God and receive those blessings received for the covenant people. Except even Christ visited the Temple of Solomon. And it was important enough for him to clear out all of the money changers. The Lord also commanded Moses to build the Tabernacle and carry it around with them everywhere. In the Bible the temple was a place to make covenants with God and gave the covenant people a place to set themselves apart from the world. We believe God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. So, if he commanded those of the Bible to build temples, since He is never changing He would obviously command us to build temples today. Covenants are essential to us building a relationship with and coming to know the Lord. The temple is a place where we are able to make covenants with God. The same a Abraham did! We invite all those that have faith in God to come make covenants with that one true God that they believe in.

But simply making covenants isn't enough. We must keep those covenants as well; we all will fall short in keeping these covenants. That is where grace comes in the; The Lord will strengthen and purify/sanctify those with meekness and lowliness of heart so that they can reach the point where they can keep their covenants perfectly. I agree that some organizations may not be using it righteously and I don't claim to know the LDS church definitely uses it righteously in every circumstance (since no man is perfect, I'm sure abuse exists), but a church can't sustain it's building and it's members when they're in need without a tithing set in place. I also believe that my tithing for the most part goes to good. If someone in the organization is abusing it though, that adds to their condemnation in the eyes of God. Also my fam got on food relief from the church when we were struggling and they definitely delivered. We had peanut butter, oatmeal and tons of canned food we picked up each week for months.

@@MerkieAE maybe I could start at the end of your statement and work my way backward. What exactly is your purpose in pointing out that those companies are run by an openly gay man and an atheist? I suppose a number of people would bring those things up in the context that the church might oppose such lifestyles. Did it occur to you that the church doesn't look at those things, but invests in good companies that are truly helping humanity through their efforts? I don't see why that is a bad thing. As someone who went 18 months not paying tithing due to excommunication, I can tell you that the act really is a blessing. Now, you can say that the church just wants your money all you want; but I am not paying tithing to the church - I'm paying it to the Lord. What the organization itself does with the money, I really don't worry about. I see temples and meetinghouses going up, humanitarian aide being offered around the world, missionaries spreading the gospel, and the entire world being blessed. I don't care about the church's stockpile of funds because as far as I can tell they are doing many wonderful things and then maybe putting the rest away for safety, much as the rest of us would. Additionally, so far as I know, tithing is a commandment from God, not the church; and I do my best to follow His commandments. I know that the church has councils to decide how the tithing funds are spent and cared for. Living in Utah, I know there are many church employees being paid on those funds, and I know the church is VERY strict about making sure each employee is working to not waste those funds through overtime and other waste. I know all this because I myself was a church employee for several years, and I learned to appreciate the care the managers put into their staff. Regardless of how you feel about the church having a stockpile of funds, perhaps it would be beneficial to examine all the good the church does with tithing funds ahead of that stockpile.
