Question from a non-mormon: what about the fact that Joseph Smith was adamant that the center of nephite civilization was Palmyra, New York and the numerous other statements he made (including claiming divine revelation that told him) about the land of the nephites and lamanites being in North America? between Missouri and New England? You didn't mention it in your video, but are you claiming their are two "Hills Cumorah"?

Joseph Smith Jr. read the bible extensively, unlike most Christians today. What Johnny does not explain is how Joseph Jr. managed to get so many people to 'go along' with his supposed fraud. More importantly, he does not explain how the complexities that have been revealed in the Book of Mormon in the 20th and 21st centuries, such as Chiasmus, Stylometery, and other Hebraisms, came about from such an uneducated individual as Joseph Jr. I wonder if Johnny believes the weird discourses of the Bible, such as Saul becoming Paul after going blind, etc., or does he shun the entire Bible which is just as weird as the Book of Mormon.

I trust and believe the Prophet Joseph Smith when he declared publicly and in many news articles that he never at any time received or taught any revelation that plural marriage was anything an abomination before the Lord. In the 1933 to the 1944 section 101 in Doctrine and Covenants and in the 1944 109 section of the D&C explains the Lords commandment on marriage and that marriage is to be between one man and one women only. Plural marriage was never mentioned until after Joseph was killed and only after they settled in Utah. Over 10 years after Josephs death was it change to the 132 sec, of the D&C in the 1550.

18:10 yeah, keep laughing at the thought of it while you're in the middle of it. The history of the church is largely about control: control of what the members are allowed to know about the history of the church, about its financial and legal dealings, control over what you're allowed to say about the leadership. Should I mention control over the underwear adult members are wearing? How about control over your afterlife? The list goes on. Keep laughing, brother.

It's funny how most of the videos by the church members say the conversation between the sister missionaries at the bus stop is impossible to imagine. Well, let me assure you that although rare, these topics do come up in the conversation elders and sisters have with their 24/7 companions while roaming the streets of unresponsive cities and towns.

Hi! I commented on Keystone as well. But I wanted to comment here. I’ve been watching Saints Unscripted for a while now, and I’ve always loved Faith/Beliefs segment, especially the videos that cover harder topics (e.g. Polygamy). But I would really you guys to do a video on the topic further. Ive been trying to do more research on church history and doctrine (I’m approaching college soon and really want to be prepared when I hopefully serve a mission), but I recently discovered that men can be sealed to several women (and additionally, women can’t). I know we don’t practice polygamy anymore, and though it’s still definitely controversial, we don’t know everything on that topic so I’ve made my peace on that matter. I still have questions, but it’s not hindering my testimony or anything. HOWEVER, why do we still practice such a polygamy based sealing arrangement? Should I just do my own research? I’ve read a church essay on it, but I didn’t get much out of it. I just would really love a discussion on the topic further if possible. 😁

I’ll give everyone a proper example of what’s going on here and how things can get lost in translation due to words having several different meanings… Go watch the movie Tombstone. In that movie Doc Holliday is low key and educated man but nobody expects it due to his behavior. He and Johnny Ringo are talking smack to each other and Doc switches into Latin (most people couldn’t speak it back then) but Johnny Ringo responds back to his remarks in Latin. The two are having a testy moment where Ringo pulls his revolver and points it in Doc’s face and then taunts him with pistol tricks and these are the days where mutual dueling was legal. So essentially talking life and death making death threats to each other over a poker match. If you google the translation in the movie to see exactly what they said to each other there are SEVERAL different versions of what they could have said. However that being said when we apply logic, context and reasoning it’s pretty obvious this was a heated and threatening back and forth but some translations make it seem like tea party nonsense between two kids. It’s comical. Nobody who is talking smack making death threats in an elegant but dangerous manner would choose such corny or geeky verbiage but technically it can be misinterpreted the wrong way when words have several different meanings whilst still technically being correct in translation but better words could have been used to really drive the narrative between the two parties and how they truly felt about the situation and with the intent they both truly intended to do to each other (kill the other over who’s a better and faster gun). 🤷♂️

The pure bias of this video is astounding. This video completely ignores key points in the movie and the movie itself. Criticism is fine, but there were moments where you made unsupported claims based on personal interpretation rather than the actual content of the movie. Your bias is shown when you reviewed a movie 2 of you didn't even watch and blindly agreed with the thought of one person which is funny since this whole movie was against the idea of trusting someone at face value or believing in something without research. While you hate the movie's acting the two of you didn't even watch and belittled actors involved and also the production as a whole just because someone of your faith said so is the exact telling of the movie. The movie wants you to research, that you should question, you should think for yourself and believe in what you think to be true, which is something you didn't do and what the movie warns you about. Maybe if you drop your bias and actually watch the movie and have an actual conversation instead of yes manning someone who watched the movie with his eyes and ears shut that gets half the plot wrong your video won't have a 2% Like rate.

Unfair to women? Dude you just brushed off the fact that Joseph Smith commited polygamy and tried to justify it by saying all the other prophets did it, and sadly... you said God permitted it... wow... Repent now man, youre in a deep hole. God never permitted polygamy, whether if it was Solomon or David. Stop trying to defend the false teachings of Mormanism

As a Never-Mo that grew up in SouthEast Idaho in the early 2000s...all my LDS friends and their family never acknowledged or confirmed Joseph Smith and polygamy. They actually said it never happened. So I'm just curious why church members, for generations, were led to believe it never happened when it really did. In fact, most acknowledged the polygamy but stated it began with Brigham Young and the Utah era. Didn't Fawn Brodie get excommunicated for writing a book in the 1940s that exposed Joseph Smith and polygamy? The Church Topic Essays now publicly acknowledge Joseph and polygamy...but why decades and generations of organizational silence until now? I mean...I have friends who lived their whole life hearing Joseph didn't do it. Do you know what it's like being 14 and knowing more about your friends' religion than they do? And them and their parents and the missionaries they invited to dinner while you visited all lying straight to your face and you know they're all lying?

As an older member of the church, I find this discussion refreshing. I've always hidden my belief in evolution, especially at church, because it would start arguments if I stated I believed in it. I was taught the young earth theory with the pieces and parts thrown in. I never could believe that. I still have family members who believe the young earth theory.

Show me the Chapter and verse where it mentions ANY other race or people in the book of Mormon that were in American or the Americas (which ever you prefer) already when any group of Israelites arrived. To my knowledge there is no mention of intermingling with existing or any indigenous tribes at their arrival. You would think if there was it would be told. I mean even when Christopher Columbus came to America, All those stories mention the people that he and his crew ran into.

Until recently I had never heard playing cards referred to as "face cards". I'm assuming it's a Utah/western U.S. thing. Where I'm from, "face card" specifically refers to the kings, queens, and jacks, and no others. So for a while, I thought early church leaders were specifically against using kings queens and jacks, but playing games with the rest of the cards was fine.
