In 2014, I got PhD Scholarship for University of Exeter, UK; and it had/has changed my life. It wasn't that simple, as I had been applying for scholarships since 2012, after completion of my master in Chemistry. I was regularly applying to USA, Canada, Australia, China, Europe, etc; but NO luck. However, when I completed my Mphil in Chemistry with Quality PUBLICATIONS, then I received scholarship offers from Canada, Australia, China, and UK. My educational background was Urdu (Pushto) medium, so, I struggled too much with my IELTS (three times, each time I paid Rs20,000). It was a very hard and uncertain time. However, I was teaching in a private institute and had no pressure from family so, easily managed those applications expenses. Summary: (1) Do quality work with full sincerity in your MPhil. (2) You should be completely honest (true person) and devoted to your work (MPhil or Master). (3) The struggle must be continues. (4) And you should have some financial support (very little) from your family & friends.

@@umamab.3663 I had four articles and they were published in more than two years (M.Phil). Credit goes to my co-supervisor who guided me properly, although, no one from my co-supervisor's group has published such quality work so far. I will recommend personal interest, hard work, and a sincere supervisor.

Thanks Sairbeen and Aliya Nazki for such an inspiring program..... I am originally from a very backward village devoid of almost all basic amenities, studied in government schools and a public university in Sindh but I personally believe that "where there is a will, there is a way". I have won two scholarships one after the other in two European universities. There are no doubt a lot many scholarship opportunities for those who really dare to grab one. I fully agree with Mr. Abbas Hussain Sahib for his five points to consider while applying for any scholarship. Just follow the golden words of Paulo Coelho "When you really want something, the world conspires to make a dream come true".

I applied to many scholarships and I am still applying. Students should remain very optimistic and shouldn't give up. Education has no cost in real! :)

I was an electronic engineer in Pakistan and always wanted to work in the field but couldn't, as it is a male-dominated field and exploits employees. So I applied twice for international graduate admissions, writing 100+ emails to the professors. What got me the admission was my marks in Mathematics. So it depends on the professor as usually prefers a research paper. My suggestion for anyone looking for international master/Ph.D. admission is to first contact professor(s) to accept you in their lab and then apply for admission to that university. Most of the time, at the university website, it is written to first apply for admission and then contact the professor, but the reality is other way around. Hope that helps.

Yes. I applied for Fulbright, chevening and common wealth. But I got direct admission with funding in a US school. So I preferred it. Now I am studying in US on F1 student visa. And this experience has been awesome!

I went to china for PhD on scholarship. Covid has impacted my studies because I came back on holidays in January 2020 and unable to go back due to pandemic. Getting scholarship is very good and keeps you focused on your studies.

@@myinspirationaldiary8712 first decide which degree you want to apply and then decide country. Focus on the specific requirements of that degree and country. Getting scholarship is at least one year process. Start this year and then you can go abroad next year.

What a wonderful programme, BBC! Thanks for including the diverse voices of the student body from different socio-economic strata. While I completely agree and acknowledge the asymmetrical opportunities available to students in Pakistan especially in remote regions of Pakistan, I do not want to emphasize that the academic standards and rigour; sadly, does not take into account the background of the students whether they studied in elite private English medium school; non-elite English medium schools, Urdu medium government schools or Madarsaah. In other words, when it comes to international standards, they remain the same for everyone!

There r few more things that affect your efforts: 1. Improper guidance 2. Unawareness 3. Agents try to trap you whenever you try to contact or search any university online. 4. Unaffordable fee for tests to apply for scholarships. . Please reply if i missed something.

I have applied like 2-3 times for different scholarships in Japan, China & other asian countries. The only reason was that i m unable to afford the tests & bank statement, even back then & now.

Finding scholarships is not at all difficult. And you dont need to be so rich or you don't need to be extraordinarily intelligent for that either. The only problem is that Pakistani students do not have proper guidance. If BBC Urdu wants to contact me regarding this I would be more than happy to guide.

Dont give up. Even if you pay 36,000 for GRE, all you expenses will be recovered within 6 months of foreign study. We really need to be specific about our goals n objectives. Perseverance is the key to success

I applied for University of Brunei, swedish institute scholarship, USEFP, Turkiye Burslari, and several other scholarships. I am still working on it but seems like i have wasted a lot of money and time on application fees for universities. Recently i also got admission in a swedish university but couldn't afford to pay the fees. Let's see what the future brings
