idk if it's really canon but he has a physical shield/aura maybe a few skin layers further from his body that prevents damage to objects within it, and he's supposedly able to suppress it completely or down to right around his skin or whatever protrudes further that is also a part of his body it could be his muscles and he just happened to be particularly relaxed before slapping the mosquito queen, and i think im going with the muscle theory because it kinda looked like that when we saw the red steamy glow from boros's perspective(?)
