Thank for the comparison. The 82b May just need more run in time . I just bought one with a 14x6 prop. Shall run in proper before going into a ultimate bipe. Cheers

Nice video as usual. The 82b version bearings/valve operation sounded much louder to me in your video. Might be the mic i dont know. I have a 82b that had a slight squeak from the cam after about 8 hours running. Sounded like the cam wasnt getting enough oil to me ( 18% klotz 200).The noise disappeared after it cooled off and restarted. I have run heaps of Saito's in the past but will probably run maybe 4% caster from now. Not overly happy with the 82b though.

David, I am rebuilding a 1999 Saito FA 80 GK, I’ve stripped the paint and am polishing it, considered Cerakote but the polished aluminum looks very cool. I noticed the con rod is not bushed on either end. It is a Hemi ABC high compression. Thoughts on going with a new connecting rod/crank/wrist pin/piston? I hate to blow the rod and ruin engine but it is the original setup. Ebay purchase so with all I’m doing I’m in for twice as much as a new engine but it’s all about the fun. I’m going to use it in an original SIG Skybolt kit from the 70’s. When I built on in 1975, I had a K&B .61. Is guess I’m reliving my teenage years!🤪

Unless there is something wrong with the existing parts, why replace them? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Great video, I have both of these engines and I was eager to see the difference, if any, between the two. My 82 is an nib. I have a few newer saito engines with the plastic arm on the carb, 72 & 56, but the older ones with the metal arm, 50 & 80 seem to run a bit sweeter and use less fuel, the newer ones seem to be a bit more fussy to deal with and a bit better mid range (different cam?) in flight but it could be just me or the plane it's in

Unknown but I certainly agree with the fact that the Twos, 62, 72, 82's seems to run a bit more 'ragged' I guess is a term. They seem a bit noisier and more tempermental. I definitely do not care for them like I do the 'classic' series. I refer to the 45, 45S, 50, 56, 65, 80, 91S, 120S as the "Classic Series". The never designs just don't seem to have the same level of ease of operation and quality in my opinion. I won't be wasting any more time or money on the "Two's'. This sentiment is also how I feel about the 100 and 125 engines. I have never run a 115 but I bet I would feel the same about it also. The operational characteristics of these engines has changed once Saito made them all smaller, lighter and more powerful. The 100 is my least favorite of all Saito engines and I will never own one of them again.

Nice to know..i guess. I just bought a 65gk and 80 at a swap meet for cheap. I bought a 72nib a month ago, ive heard great things about them from other owners. Will see how these used ones turn out, maybe leave the 72 in the box. There also was a magnum 70for cheap, i shoulda grabbed it too. Nice videos sir ;)

I ran a 14x4 prop on my 80 and had a problem with the rpm dropping I then put the 13x4 on and it ran like a charm. Mind you the 80 is new barely broken in

Very close in RPM performance but 82B makes more internal noises maybe overheated a little and need more time to run in, on the other hand the 80 "low comprensión" sounds healthier hapier more crisp throttle response. I prefer a healthier engine, i don't think 1.8X ounces lighter makes sense. Lighter isn't better, only better is better.

Great video David. Now that you have ran that S&W fuel for awhile, do you like it? How does it compare to Omega or other fuels you've used?

Old style Saito exhaust are extremely hard to find now it seems, but they are GOLD in my opinion. The newer cast style muffler is just complete garbage.

@@dmrcflyr2 agree. Where do you buy spare parts for Saito and ASP? I live in Poland(middle of Europe) but sometimes it is easier to import (even from USA)than buy in my area.
@dmrcflyr2
@dmrcflyr2 5 жыл бұрын
I don't buy parts for ASP engines. Saito spare parts are obtained through the US distributor which is Horizon Hobby.

I have been running Saito's for over 20 years and I completely agree the older motors do seem to have better quality and run characteristics, my only complaint about the older from the new is the older engines are way heavier. Out of all my motors I think the .56's are better runners than the .62's, and the .72's always seem to be less tempermental and run smoother than the .82's. I think when they bored out the 56's and the 72's they might have ruined them.
