Well look at the Empress's other behaviour. She was responsible for so many deaths, the infertility of so many concubines and even in her final hours, attempts to tell the Emperor that he can’t marry the love of his life after her death. A soul eaten up by envy.

So I love reading reborn/transmigrator villainess webtoons and stories of similar ilk. They often deal with nobility and royalty. My favs are the ones that recognize that the price of the luxury they live is that marrying for love was never an option. Marriage is a diplomatic/business tool. It's why I love this scene. Jingse is spoiled by her position but never comprehended the cost the title of being the legitimate daughter came with, until Ruyi spelt it out to her.

Jingse was a spoiled brat through out the series due to her mother. The emperor saw that she was being badly raised but didn't do much to prevent it.
