This is the second video in my SAK series. We look at the Victorinox Compact and talk about other models with similar features and finally look at a custom knife I've made.

Awesome custom! I would prefer the electrician's blade though.

Hey buddy 👊 I love the Climber & Compact. However, for me the Climber is better value, overall. I find the Super Tinker also a great option, especially as it's discounted considerably, so I bought a few for family and friends 😉 I find that hawkbill/ pruner very useful, as is on my SA2 which I reviewed not long ago myself. Moreover, for some more versatility, I'd go for the Electrician's blade. Tha ks for sharing, though, Atb Gus 👍

Thanks! I agree, the Super Tinker is a great option and I personally prefer it to the Climber.

The hook with nail file can be also found on a few other models like the Voyager-Traveller family, at least one special Climber version (Mammut), and some of the giant models like the Swiss Champ XAVT.

Absolutely right! There are some one-offs, discontinued and special models, I mainly focused on regular stuff you are able to buy fron Victorinox today.

The substantial tool on the modified knife is great, but I’d still be tempted to use the combo tool. Wish they made a more sturdy one

So I received a custom 2 layer SAK from eBay today. Similar to a Compact but in 84mm, with a primary blade and combo tool. Instead of a hook, it has an awl. Normally this is rare on Victorinox. But the scissors were definitely from a Wenger, so I suspect that is the secret to incorporating an awl and scissors on the front and back layers. It also has Philips instead of a corkscrew. Absent are the pen and pin on these particular 84mm scales. Still i wish Vic would consider awl & Philips as a factory 2 layer offering.

The Compact is by far the best sak for everyday EDC urban use. That's why they can charge for it. The Compact just makes sense. Do they overcharge? Yes they do but I still choose it.

It would be good to see the opener combo tool used more, giving room for another tool.

I have the Bantam in Alox 84mm. Has a blade and the combo tool. Wish Victorinox made one with the scissors as well.

They used to! There is an 84mm Golfer and Voyageur, both have a blade, combo tool and scissors. Golfer has cellidor scales and back tools while Voyageur is the Alox Bantam with scissors.

@@Hyper_D I read that the machine that made the scissors for the 84mm broke, and having absorbed Wenger and their 85mm line, Victorinox didn't consider repairing or replacing it to be important.

I have read the same story 😁. It’s an interesting mystery, I am not sure if we will ever learn the truth. Personally I am suspicious of the machine breaking story as they stopped selling the last 84mm scissors in 2008 and only bought Wenger in 2014. Also the scissors among other tools are stamped out of sheet metal which would suggest to me that the machines used are not very unique but rather use dies or similar to stamp out shapes.

You can easily open up the hidden 4th scale tool slot. Felix Immler has a tutorial which I used

Yes, I’ve also seen it! Maybe I’ll try on a future project
