Well, this movie was never nominated, it was sent for oscars, but failed to get nominated. 46 films were sent from 46 different countries, among which 5 got nominated, and the movie crunching tiger, hidden dragon from Taiwan won the Oscar. By the way, I am not being negative here, the five nominated movies of that year is a must watch and you will realize why rest 41 movies failed to get nominated. Hey Ram was an extra ordinary movie, no doubt. But simple man has to dig into details to understand it better. If this movie wasn’t dissected and explained in many KZbin channels then we would have failed to recognize it in this era after 20 years. That was the reason the movie failed to appeal the masses when it was released. I somehow felt that hey ram lacked the depth to appeal commoners, this movie is strictly for hardcore movie enthusiast and a reference study for future movie makers or pursuers.

I feel that Hey Ram is the best movie ever made of the tons of movie I've seen. If Kamal and Ilayaraja were born in Hollywood and made something like this, the Oscar would have been reserved for them for this movie. We still fail to celebrate Kamal. Hey Ram, Virumandi, Aazhavanthan, Kuruthipunal, Mahanadi, Pesum padam, there's no match for Kamal hands down. No one is even close to him.

My appa is a great fan of kamal hassan I've always wondered what is with him to be kamal's fan never really understood his movie but after a while growing up with his movie on my tv coz obviously my appa would never change the channel then with no other choice left I use to watch his movies and as days passed I slowly got to understand his movies and my appa was more of kamal's personality so I could finally understand what he says u know people use to say I don't really understand what he is conveying "kamal maari piriyamale pesura" "padame puriyala" even this was the state in which I was in but when I slowly got to understand kamal's movie I got to know my father. Today he is in a place were I couldn't share this with coz there had always been a rivalry going on b/w me and him. P.s he is alive hale and healthy but I'm not able to reach him coz between me and him there are some vertically stood up rods sorrows apart.. Let's come back to what I was saying kamal hassan's movies taught me how to look into something in a broader spectrum and in different angles. Hey Ram was one such movie which brought back memories of me and my appa watching it together and appa decoding each and every frame...
