KevinJ Cram, This was worth every penny! You did this Sako Extractor Installation for me back in 02/2013 on two Remington 700 bolts and I have not had one failure to extract or one failure to eject. Thank you again! Today is 02/24/2021, just over 8 (eight) years.

Having just watched three videos of guys claiming to show an install of a Sako extractor into a Remington 700 bolt, You Sir have provided the best video ever on how it is done sans all the math . Very Good and I thank you for sharing your skills/knowledge. It allows a meat and potatoes kinda guy just what goes into the task of doing this install.

I have a 7 remington magnum sendero 2,the gunsmith said the one's with the serial number RR are a bad bunch, first few rounds the shell's would not eject, stuck in the barrel, what's the problem, extractor problem, bolt problems,or barrel.
@timsretired8675Ай бұрын
Problem being that the bolt diameter is too small to accommodate the .535 dia. Case and the Sako extractor , this process works well for standard sizes but gets tricky with magnums

Very Cool Craftsmanship. I would assume this upgrade, doesnt affect accuracy. Remington should have done this from day one, but it does require more Labor Costs, Then again , maby not with Modern CNC.

Superb engineering! Quality tradesman, but why not just buy a Sako rifle in the first place! Just the same huge respect to the tradesman craft.

What do you charge for doing this to the standard REM 700 bolt?
@peterwass16832 жыл бұрын
According to quite a few people, it is improper to drill through a Remington bolt to install the Sako extractor, rather a pocket should be milled without penetrating the bolt body for safety reasons. It would ne just as easy to do and retain the integrity of the bolt. I have two Rem 700 bolts, both have holes drilled right through them. If one looks at a PTG replacement bolt, they have a pocket milled. I once saw a Sako extractor blown out of a 700 bolt when the shooter inadvertently fired the primer in a case that was in the case backward. Shooter was not harmed but the rifle was useless for a time.

Can you do this to a Remington 700 short action 22-250 I’m tired of having the extractor issues from Remington in my bolt now it’s shaving brass on the bullet case and it ridiculously hard to close the bolt

Nice Video. Do you have any suggestions on where one should go to gunsmithing school? I have been in firearms sales for ten years and perform armorer type work at my job currently, but my experience with lathes and mills is very very limited. The gunsmith I work under told me that I should consider signing up for a program since it is a passion of mine.

I did not catch why you installed the little ring. Did you change the caliber? About 12 years ago we did a few 700's, and I do not recall installing the little ring. Yours looks very sharp when completed. I thought the spring and plunger hole was to be drilled a little off center from the bottom of the radius. My problem is, I can't remember what I did last year, let alone 12 yrs ago!!!

Hey Kevin, I assume that when you buy the Sako extractor kit from Midway or PTG that all the instructions include length of cut and depth of cut, etc, etc? If not, is there a good source for more info?

Great video Kevin, however, I can't for the life of me, understand why one would go to such great pains, only to install something that is going to 'induce' feeding problems? I've just got a $6,500.00 custom built rifle, based on a trued Remington action, with a Sako extractor installed, and it won't extract the cartridge (the gunsmith says it's the fault of the un-'fireformed' Norma brass being too short for the claw to engage it, and that it would sort itself out once fireformed) and it won't 'eject' the cartridge half the time, rather, choosing to simply dump the extracted shell on top of the other round that's sitting in the magazine! Man, I'd give anything to go back to a factory Remington extractor claw, just for the reliability!
@riverstyxarmory97828 жыл бұрын
check headspace, then buy a new Rem bolt and have it mated to your rifle. easy (sort of)
@SeriousSchitt8 жыл бұрын
Might be alright now cobba, gunsmith cold be right, it seems to extract and eject the fireformed cases ok. Thanks.
@riverstyxarmory97828 жыл бұрын
+SeriousSchitt if it won't extract factory ammo then there's a problem. maybe just an extractor problem, but still a problem. but whatever works for you.
